I was thinking about this on my way home last night, while idly looking at my oil pressure guage which indicated the good old 25 p.s.i. It's been like that for ever, so I'm not worried (I've put 90k miles on the engine...)

Anyhow, it reminded me that an unheathily high oil pressure (some people are obsessed with this) causes the oil pump to work harder, and the oil pump is driven off the bottom of the dizzy shaft via the same cam gear. Which will wear out with too much load.

So you might want to check if the oil pressure is reading above 30 psi when hot, and if so adjust the spring tension in the relief valve to knock it back a tad.

................ Its a Piper cam with about 20k on it so disappointed to find out this was the issue..................
The drive gear for the dizzy would not normally be changed with the fitting of a new cam. The chain and chain wheels would but not the skew gear.
