HELP! We broke our tasmin racers’ rear mounted left hand leading arm and need a replacement. Can members of the forum lead us to a solution? We did weld it before, but the item simply is not strong enough.

Whereabouts on the part did it break?

I wonder if it's a ford cortina item but you would be hard pressed finding one except from a breaker's.

Oh and it's page 57/58.

I'm assuming trailing arm not A frame? I've some spares for A frame, but doubt it's of use.

@Adam: The arm broke close to the connection to the droplink. Cortina parts are almost impossible to find in the Netherlands. I guess we have to fabricate new ones ourselves. @KKson: The car is a 1981Tasmin with trailing arms.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion!

When I look at the picture, the connection for the droplink is in a different position, so neds to be rewelded. Any idea if it is a mark! of MArk 5 as they have different order numbers?

I suppose it is likely to be a mark 3 or 4 Cortina part as the Tasmin was developed in 1978-79 I think.

Perhaps it's a TVR specific part, I just assumed it was a standard Ford part.

It looks like a customized Ford item. I wrote to motomobil for advice. Maybe we can change the position for the drop link ourselves.

Did you make the lower wishbone yourself ? Or do you know where it came from ?

Have a search under Ford Taunus parts as they shared much of the cortina bits?

The arm was on the car when I bought it 10 years ago. It looks like an original item to me. And I will check tghe Taunus as well.

there were two types the early cars with the rear mounted anti roll bar had a different arm the one your looking at for sale is the later type for the front mounted anti roll bar
Try and find someone breaking an early 280 tasmin

This advert ( from German ebay classifieds ) is for a pair of arms, WITHOUT the ARB hole at the locating end. You‘d have weld on your own (old) ARB link/bracket.

But at 25€ for both, they are quite cheap & no Import duty to Holland

https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-anzeige/ford-t...

I‘ve already bought the other pair. :-)

Thanks Steve! I did order a "Zugstrebe" from Motomobil in Bavaria. I need to weld the ARB eye to it as well. The angle seems to be a little wider than the one that came from the car that might result in more toe out. But maybe that can be corrected by adjusting the steering.
