My 450 failed last year with the same problem, a quick resistance check with a multimeter on the plugs and leads showed the problem, high resistance on one plug so changed them and new leads. Passed. Values are not that important, just look for a reading that look high compared with the others.

It won't do any harm. Its only supposed to be in use in the first 30 seconds or something like that.

Yes.
But you'll upset Ramon if you unplug it.

My car's was removed 20 years ago and it works fine without it.

I disconnected the cold start injector on current and previous Wedges, and never had an issue. I think it's for use on really really cold days. I had an issue with flooding on cold start. If the thermotime switch is behaving, then the injector should only run for the first 20 to 30 seconds so shouldn't actually make a difference for the MOT. My MOT is on Friday. I've changed oil and filters, and will give it a good thrashing before the MOT to ensure its well warmed up.

I had a bit of a head scratcher on the 350i concerning the cold start injector, for some reason mine needed it, I had a switch fitted so that I could turn it on pre-start and then off once started, with it it would start on the button, without it would crank for a while before catching, fuel pressure was all good and no air leaks, good air filter, plugs, clean AFM, resoldered ECU, new CTS ..leads etc, ran like a dream when I had the MANual fan temperature control switch fitted..
