Big Wedge meet up? What a good idea - who knows Sprint may do a feaure on a wedge for a change.
A blow by blow account of the turning my 390 into the 520 is scheduled for Sprint in the next couple of months. There is also some stuff planned on SEACs but if you or any Wedge owner has something to contribute send it in.

Great to hear we are going to get the definitive Wedge upgrade story. 2 requests: 1. Can you include some ballpark cost figures - just so those of us with aspirations of following in your footsteps have an idea whats involved, especially for the engine work and 2. any chance of you coming to Duxford or somewhere similar so we can a. drool over your machinery and b. see just how much faster than a lesser wedge it is. I hope to seriously "improve" my own SEAC (Tim Lamont's old one) over the next 2 or 3 years, regrettably cant afford it all at once so this year its the chassis and back to gel coat re-spray as I cant do any of that myself given the small size of my garage!!

Hi everyone, we seem to have started something here, Duxford sounds a great Idea, a Big wedge (any wedge) gathering is a most excellent concept !!! Why wait until then, is anyone going to "Backhome" next year, we could get together over a few beers and see what happens !!

Steve,
if you want to use mine as an example of a Wedge that has gradually had (and is still having) the 'more normal' upgrades for which you have so skillfully acted as a guinea pig then please feel free. Then you can have an example of the 'whole hog' (i.e. yours) and a less extreme upgrade path (i.e mine)
The article has already been sent and I decided not to include prices in case my other half found out how much I had spent!
If you really want to know... The engine was £10.5K excluding the ACT stuff but including VAT. Gearbox recon and strengthen, rad, new PAS etc came to about another 3 grand. I already had the upgraded brakes, suspension, traction control, data logging, roll bar. Add to that several hundred for the new bonnet, bumper and spoiler which weighed 4 kg in total and 500+ for the two new fuel pumps and the 900 pnds for the three clutches I have consumed this year and the 200 man hours it took to do the conversion, and the chassis strengthening etc etc and you get some idea of the cost.
Performance is interesting: there is another article describing exactly what it is like on the first 10 seconds in a sprint off the line at Goodwood in preparation using the data logger report. The data logging clocked the 520 at 4.3 seconds for the 60 and 9.2 for th hundred (have done 8.9 since then) all on cold tyres. Rear tyres last around 800-1000 miles. Got through 22 tyres this season.
As for Duxford, I am usually sprinting somewhere every weekend so it all depends. Let Tony Connor know and I am sure he will cover it in Sprint.
This year the engine will be upgraded with a triple throttle body and should be up in the 420-440 bhp level. May even get into the hi 7s or lo 8s for the 100 run which is close to a race Tuscan. New Tower View brakes, suspension and a full roll cage are underway along with some more aerodynamic stuff and yes the car will still be road legal. Fuel consumption on a track with exhaust flames is around 1-2 mpg. Cruising is around 11 mpg.

Steve,
Thats what I call a SERIOUS bill.
I've nearly got my SEAC back from a rebuild by Peninsula. They they have done a lot of work and it's all really good stuff. The full story is on http://go.to/tvrbristol For comparison, my bill will come out in excess of 10K (but not too much hopefully...)

Depends how you look at it. No you're right. It was a serious set of bills!
I was lucky that as Tower View sponser the car, there was a lot of stuff especially labour for the two clutch changes etc that I didn't pay for. I had access to the workshops, stores and we could make parts up and all this stuff. It would not have been possible without them.
Anyway I only do it for research for the books and not because I enjoy it at all.

How come its a '92 car when the 450SE's finished production in 1990?.......
It's one of a pair specially ordered by the same guy for the middle east. They were both pretty modified for the revised engine/gearbox so not sure if they were factory 'layabouts' ?
Slight differences between mine and the Monza Red one.
I have seen the odd 'M' registered 400 though !

All will be revealed if you join the Owners Club! Check out the TVRCC web site and follow the tyre smoke!!
Word of warning - you are at the top of a slippery slope of horsepower addiction - my bank balance has never recovered!
350s are (in my humble opinion) the best entry level TVR under 10k,unfortunately they ONLY have 196BHP which you will soon realise is not enough......enjoy!!!

Well, I've just bought a 460SE!!
Originally a 400SE but with:
V8 Developments 4.6L lightened/balanced bottom end.
Lightened pistons/cut out to accept big valves.
Stage 3, big valve ported/flowed John Eales heads.
V8 Developments hybrid cam/performance lifters.
Mark Adams remapped ECU & adjustable fuel regulator.
AP racing clutch.
The car needs running in before a full rolling road setup, but I'm hoping to get a genuine 300 brake at the wheels. We shall see!!!
Cheers
Stig
PS. That's why I need the SE typeface as I want to change the badging!

Oh, forgot to add that it's got a stainless 'sports' exhaust too - very Max Power.
I mean, sports exhausts on a Wedge - it's not as if you need to make them louder is it!!!! It must be at least 5" wide at the back box
Sounds like the apocolypse when it starts up!!
