The car needs running in before a full rolling road setup, but I'm hoping to get a genuine 300 brake at the wheels. We shall see!!!

Is that what Ray and Mark predicted? Your engine spec sounds similar to mine and it's nothing like 300 flywheel let alone at the road. But whatever the numbers are, it'll be very nice indeed compared to the original engine.

Nah Pete, just a wild guess on my part! Although, with the head work, the current owner thought that a crank figure of 360-380 was possible with tweaks to the ECU. Hang on, allowing for transmission losses that ain't going to be 300 is it! Still, a genuine 230+ will still be more than most 500 Griffs make.

What sort of figures d'you think I can expect (not that it matters as it'll be more than I need for the road). I keep my 'on-the-limit' driving for the circuits in the Locost championship!

I reckon you will get around 250-265 if you are running on standard injectors, air flow and plenum. Possibly a little more if these are bigger. This is around what a Griff 500 will give you.

Thanks Steve,

I think that it's already running the Jag airflow meter. Plenum is standard and am unsure about the injectors. Will know more after a poke about on Thursday once it's down the workshop.

Brakes definitely need some attention though!! Methinks that the Demon Tweeks 2002 catalogue may come in handy - again! Talking of which, I seem to remember that the orginal 400SE 4 pots from the Princess? Can you confirm?

Cheers

Yes. I ran these with a 300mm Tower View Big disk upgrade on the 520 for about 2.5 years and they will be plenty good enough for road and track use. A lot cheaper than the 1000 pnd DT upgrade in the 2002 catalogue.

That's what I thought. Off to Tower View I go then!

Any tips on getting some decent performance from the inboard rears? (other than the ducting).

Cheers

Mintexx 1144 pads + Tower View ducts is what I have used. You can get upgraded callipers but at 1000 pnds ish just for the callipers I've decided against that. I use standard mk 3 discs (solid edges that don't break and jam in the calliper) with no grooves.

The ducting also stops the heat from the brakes knackering the diff drive shaft bearings by keeping them cool.

Yup sounds about right. Mine has had a lot of work done on the induction side including oversize throttle body, plenum, trumpets, manifold etc to compliment the stage III heads and cam. It's also got the rising rate regulator and been chipped by Mark Adams. It was clocked at about 265 shortly after it was run in, roughly what you'd expect from a stock Griff 500 on that rolling road. It's hard to tell but to me it *feels* quicker now it's had 40k miles of loosening up and got a bit lighter to the tune of a couple of cats, at a guess I'd say it may be up to 275 or 280 (flywheel) by now, but maybe I'm just being optimistic. In any case that's still well short of 300.

Did I mention the Nitrous?

Well, in any case it's plenty. Picked up the car yesterday and first impressions are that the car is very smooth. I got quite a bit of engine braking on the 390SE and the 500 Griff, but this feels remarkably different (lightened/balanced) and means confident downshifts without a great deal of heel-and-toe. The throttle response is excellent too.

It still needs about 400 miles of running in before I can let loose most of the ponies. We shall see.

Cheers Pete & Steve for your advice.
