hello,

it won't be long before i have my cam replaced on my 350i and i was going to go for the kent cam H 218, is anyone running on one of these and what do you think/how does it pre-form,
i don't mind it being a bit lumpy on idle which i might find with this cam or can anyone recommend a different/better one

Can't help you with the 218 - sorry.

However - I've just uploaded my own cam saga to www.tvrcc-bristol.co.uk and it's under 'Weird Cam Timing'. Might give you a good laugh.

Nacnud, are your worms missing
Interesting pics though.

tcpc, I have a 218, though not sure how to relate mine to yours but I find it OK. Good around town and Cry Havoc etc when it needs to.

Whats them last few piccies? Exhaust?

All sound promising Nacnud, BTW the 404 has better "manners" than the H234 with a cleaner idle , but more torque everywhere, let us know how it drives.
no vernier pulley is normal with NCK engines of that vintage.

To answer the original post, the 218 cam in a 350 is about what i would recommend .

Just uploaded a fairly comprehensive report on how the changes have affected performance to the usual www.tvrcc-bristol.co.uk

Quick question. How much £ for a TVR specialist to change the cam and set the beastie up?

Cost of cam kit (£150 to £500 depending on kit) plus two days labour.

Mine had additional labour involved as they had to drill out the block to fit the pushrods included with the 404 kit.

We are all very excited, it's a rare opportunity that we are grasping. Sun 20th July is planned to be an unmissable event. All South West TVRs will be invited (and welcome), plus we plan to 'host' TVRs driving in from further away.

Currently we are waiting for permission and are deliberately not advertising too much before we get official go-ahead. I'm planning to email ROs with a 'heads up' this week hoping that they might keep this date free in their calendars.

Ok read your report, Firstly the 404 will put out approx the same BHP as the 234, Richards 40 bhp increase is based on Griffith & Chimaera applications, but the 404 will produce more torque than a 234, loads more at 2-4000 rpm peak bhp should be at around 6200-6400 on a 4.5, standard injectors and tall thin trumpets will restrict this.
The idle should be smoother than 234, the fact that it is badly effected by head lights being turned on indicates that it needs resetting, possibly too slow, if you adjust via the throttle stop screw you need to reset throttle position sensor each time.
The tappets shouldn't need adjustment for over 6000 miles but worth checking at around 3000 .
I'll be happy to advise further if needed feel free to email me,
cheers Tim

Understood about the 40bhp being relative to 'normal'.

Peak bhp is a surprise - obviously I really do have something strangling it.

The injectors are not Jag, but Richard and Mark didn't recognise them, they are an unusual colour - so they may or may not be standard.

It's idling at 1400rpm at the moment which I don't think is too slow. It's quite a smooth idle but is easily upset. I'm talking to Richard today and will run it past him.

Any thoughts about the lack of overrun crackle; is this normal with a 404?

Thanks for the feedback - much appreciated
