Does anyone know if it is possible to change the rear oil seal on the box in situ ? Not a major leak but spoiling my freshly restored white chassis with a splash of red!

You sure it's the output flange seal?
I replaced mine (it was leaking) and recently found a dribble of gearbox oil. Turns out to be the selector shaft (up at the top of the box) leaking!

As far as replacing it goes: you probably could but first you'd need to get the flange nut off: can't recall exactly but I think it's on fairly tight.
The seal isn't held in by compression of casings or anything: it's just a drifted fit.

Ten minute job...

Its worth checking out the condition of the g.box output shaft as well as they can catch a bit of grit between the seal and the shaft and put a nice groove / leak path onto the shaft. If it is grooved bung it in a lathe and do a min to clean on it, as the seals tend to have a fair bit of tension in them and will accomodate a slightly larger shaft OK.

That'd be a smaller shaft, surely!
