None I'm afriad, but thats cos I don't know what they look like anyway. I'll try to get to PH5 and compare it to other wedges for clues!

"Even a 350i is awesome" you bet! Went for a blat yesterday and had a play with some German stuff (still waiting for that Allagro Turbo!) - no contest! The Merc Kompressor owner even pulled up alongside at the next roundabout and said "that's never happened before". How was I to know he was trying?

As for the BMW - nuff said!

OK, just got back from PH 5 (GREAT day out!)
I compared the heater layout of my 400se with Nick Heppinstals 400se. My car is a couple of years younger than Nicks. My heater works, his doesn't (he says)
The only difference I could spot in the layout is the position of the water shut off valve under the bonnet. On mine, its close to the bulk head and the by pass pipe is down stream (ie, further away from the bulkhead) where as Nicks valve is nearer to the engine and is downstream of the bypass pipe. (Sorry if thats not very clear! )
My valve is fitted to the top most hose as it passes through the bulkhead. forgot to check which hose Nicks was on. (knowing TVR build standards I don't suppose thats too much of a clue!)
If anyone wants any more details just e mail me.
Cheers

Rich,

I run both – I have 1990 400SE and a 1989 325 touring.
I’ve had BMW’s for the last 5 years and rate them very highly but they are soleless. Even the M3, although devastatingly quick, still didn’t have anything like the “Grin Factor” you get from the TVR. I’ve insure them both for less that the M3. I bought them both from the sale of the M3 and so far they have cost me very little to run.

I would strongly advise against considering the 400 for every day use. It don’t like the commute, you invariably get stuck in traffic and end up pulling your hair out in 3rd gear. It has a small fuel tank and disposes of petrol faster than Saddam Hussein in Kuwait with a box of matches. The noise is fantastic on a bright summers day but not always what you want at the end of a long day at work.

In the wet Traction is kind of:
"Woh that was fun" - "Wo-at the f**k"

The wiper is cosmetic (although rather cool) and the heater; makes a noise, but that is the only evidence I have that even suggests there is one.

Buy one because you want a car that is going to be great fun to own and in that sense it won't let you down.
Be prepare to have to own a TVR for life

You have a water shut off valve? Neither of my wedges have - as far as I know.

Yes, it's operated by the temperature slider.
Maybe later wedges have a different heater?

My 280 didn't and 350 doesn't have a water valve, unles I have missed the obvious. Could someone confirm as I suppose it is possible there is one buried somewhere that is not opening fully.

I always though the amount of heat (did I really just say that!) was controlled by a flap in the air flow.

My 350 doesn't have one. I was hoping it did and was off!! But i doubt very much if having one would improve the lack of heat unless it wouldnt open fully.

sorry to be cynical but i do not believe any wedge heater gets to a decent temp.

Mine (valve) is where the hot water pipes come through the bulk head. And it does get hot, just all to the feet.

My '83 280i had one where the pipe comes through the bulkhead too. Now removed as it leaked vast amounts of coolant on my feet when I went to buy the car!

Are all these valves in the engine bay? or are any fitted behind the dash?

The one I mentioned below that leaked on my feet was up behind the dash above my feet when sitting in the passenger seat. Pipe came horizontally through the bulkhead into the interior and then straight into the valve.

Definately no valve in my 350 - just had a quick look (you know head in the foot well, feet sticking in the air!). Shame, I though for a moment that it might not have been fully open.

Thats the beasty in mine. Stuck open so toasty tootsies.

I plan a forth expedition to the rear of the dash soon to sort the levers out. Last time I lost Jenkins and Alsop in the swamp after they were attacked by a Jap soldier who thought the war was still on

Yes - I too have to face the 'dash' expedition. One, to put an earth directly from the instruments to the battery earth ( ala Bible ). Military experience may help!!!

I want to find an alternative to the cheap and nasty veneer, that is not alloy, also.

Had a look a your pictures. Nice car...but as a 350i owner myself that seems normal.
What did not seem normal to me is the gauge between the centre vents on your dash. What is it? Oil temperature?

And like many others no valve on my TVR 350i 1987. But the heater is definately working! But also in the summer.
