hello,

when my engine is very hot at idle
the oil light on the dash some times flickers the oil pressure is about 1bar , if i blip the throttle or when driving it all seems to be ok, i can get 3bar with rpm over 4800.

is it possable that a lumpy cam when idling could causing this to happen

does any one else have there oil light flicker on occation when the engine oil is hot

thank tony

P.s i never had this proplem before the new cam went in

What is your idle speed? Maybe it needs to be set a little higher now you have a lumpy cam?

idle is about 1200rpm but does drop to 1000 when it is very hot

Sounds a tad fast for idle but at that speed the oil light shoudn't come on?

when the idle dorps to 1000 rpm that is when the light flicker but not all the time just some times

tony

what i did notice is when i put a new oil pump and gears in the oil pump gasket looked i little thicker then the old one, would this have any bearing on the oil pressure at idle

I suppose the first thing to check would be the pressure switch for the oil light - but if it worked before then it would be a bit of a coincedence if it failed at the same time as you did the pump work.

Maybe some dirt got in while you had things in bits - and thats affecting it. I think the light is supposed to come on at 5-7psi, but it's too early in the morning to convert that to BAR!

Sounds like the pressure switch has gotten a bit tired, retire it and fit new they're about 6-7q quid from any motor factor.

would the thickness off the oil pump gasket that fits to the oil pump housing, have any difference to the idle pressure off hot oil from the oil pump

I wouldn't have thought so - those pump gears shift a lot of oil. Are you sure the original wasn't just compressed.

very possible,
i thnk i am just grasping at straws,
but
what i was thinking is the gap between the bottom off the pump gears and the face off the oil pump, was bigger than it should be
