Is there a manual out there for the 280i. Bought one 2 weeks ago and its great............BUT, there are a few things that need doing,(join the club I hear u cry ).
The hand brake nees tightening,
Brake lights dont work
And a few others, help/advise on where I can get one.
Have also been told I have a very rare engine, a 300 bhp racing cortina engine ?? Makes a heck of a sound and goes like stink.....

Most important thing you need when you own a Wedge:
The TVR Wedges, Volume 1: Maintenance by Steve Heath (also a PH'er, I believe that "shub" is his nickname). At PH the book is known as "The Bible". ISBN: 0 9530335 3 8
Handbrakes do never work! (at ours at least)

Aye, I have a thread elsewhere on here that relates my recent handbrake foray: you think it's the cable that needs twiddling, but it's actually the calipers. Cathelijne: maybe your handbrake calipers need a service? They should work OK, after all they came off a 1.5 tonne Jaguar!

It worked once, for a couple of weeks (or was it less? Don't know for sure) Thanks for the tip for the calipers, we'll look after it.

There are manuals which TVR produced for the US market.
I think "Grady" in Texas has a set for sale. I was going to buy them but I got a set with my car.
The manuauls devote a lot of space to engine, trans, FI and ignition. If you have a cortina engined car then these will not be much use to you.
I would suggest the Bible and the Haynes for your engine and trans.

Cheers Jeff n wedg1e.
The car was owned by a chap in Miami, who owned lots of "exotica" and weird cars. Too much bish bosh I suspect. Anyway........spoe to a guy at Classy chassie who did lots of work on the car, like a complete engine rebuild last year for $8k, a complete leather int for mega bux. He reckions he's costed nearly $20k worth of work overe the last 4/5 years.
But the biggest thing is the engine. Yes its the 2.9 ford v6, BUT, not one of the 6 that was put into 280's. Its the same engine that was used by turbo charged cortinas? 300 bhp !!!!
Can anyone shed some light on that one.
Will be "adjusting" the brakes this week...
Tally ho !
Oh oil change, is it ok to go to one of them quick jobbies or best to do it yourself? May not be able to slide under the car, and will take some pix for y'all.

If you trust one of those quickie oil change places with your 280i, then don't be disappointed with the
results. First of all they most likely won't have your filter in stock and secondly, do you really want
someone rushing through an oil change on your car in
15 minutes?????
Do it yourself or have a mechanic you really trust do
it for you. There is one way the filter comes out and goes in between the frame tubes. Once you get that down, an oil change isn't that difficult. You
may want to order a few filters to have on hand so
you don't have to go looking every time you are ready
to change the oil.

Mikal,
I'd be interested to know more about your engine.
I'm not sure it's from a cortina, I've been away from UK for sometime now but I think 2.3 was the largest Cortina, Capri maybe.
Although, as it's in the states it's possible it's from a Bronco mk11 or the later Ranger (both avail with Turbo) or the Mercury Capri.
I assume it is the narrow v6 not the Essex. To my knowledge and memory I think cosworth skipped the Cologne engine but did a lot on almost all others.
Of course, I would love to be correctted there!
Could you take a quick pic from the top or tell us what is says on rocker covers or plenum.

Thanks guys, will slide my fat sorry ass under and see if I can find the oil filter,
Any ideas what can I need?
Yes I can take some pix of the whole car for you. As for the engine Jeff. Havent a real clue,um wheres the plenum,(sorry to be a dufus here). The top of the engine is a big rectangular lump of Ally with FORD stamped on it. Bosch fuel injection and more wires and cables etc , than in the fat guy from M Python.
Must get the brake lights sorted 1st I think.
My MG BGT that I had in Cornwall was easy to work on, as was the 2 GT'6's that I had after. But under the bonnet of this thing.....
But it is a real head turner and the paint job has a lot of flake in it. The leather int is a real wow too.

I suppose it's not beyond the realms of possibility that it IS a Cosworth engine, but they usually advertise the fact on the rocker covers etc.
I thought Cosworth took the Cologne and banged twin-cam heads and a different cam drive on, but of course I may be talking total bollocks. Wouldn't be the first time
Either way, it'd have to be something pretty special to give 300bhp.
The plenum chamber is a large alloy casting, sat on top of the engine, with a flexible hose from the air filter/ flow meter leading into it. On a Cologne 2.8, the plenum has ribs running from front to rear. I think a 2.9 has the throttle body at the front lefthand corner, the 2.8s is midway down the l/h side of the plenum.
I'm sure that's absolutely NO help at all....

Useful, but not too technical summary of Cologne:
www.lyndon-dickens.co.uk/cologne.htm
Remember once reading about big bhp no.s with normally aspirated Ford V6 but this was with essex engine and 70s/80s racing versions I think.
Also remember reading about Ultimax large capacity versions of Cologne...?

gbgaffer has just put a (quad cam) cossie V6 in his S series
see www.tvrcc-hants.co.uk/pics/pic030314/3.jpg for larger version.
Note the spark plug position
The square box sounds like my 2.8 S1, In the UK, it was in the XR4/Sierra as well as the Capri.
or www.tvrcc-hants.co.uk/assorted/s1_28.jpg - sorry it's dark outside!
The 2.9 used in a lot of the S series has the different air box

Hope that helps, but what someone has done to your car in it's 20 year life is open to question.

Unless I miss my guess, you can log on to www.wirewheel.com click on "TVR" and look at the silver 280i listed as 'SOLD' and this is the car that has been the subject of this thread. You will see a
clear shot of the engine compartment, which will show
what looks to be the standard-looking 2.8 litre Cologne engine (which is borne out in the text on the
ad.) I suspect some upgrading may have been done to the basic engine but it is definitely NOT a Cosworth
engine.

Yes, I bought the silver one at wirewheels.....
Shall try and attach a pic of the engine bay here.
Nope, how do I attach a pic here like you have previously. Neither of us can do it?
The engine was completely stripped down to its nuts n bolts and rebuilt in Miami by Classie chassie. The guy told me that it is a one of engine and 300bhp !!
