Just a question.
Did someone ever consider a rollbar in the front of the car only (windscreen surround following)? I would like to have the additional security of a rollbar, but without disturbing the wedge side-view profile.
Don't care if compromises are to be made in the interior like getting in and out the TVR for example.
Anyone any thoughts?
Regards,
Rob

Jason,
I saw the guys working on your car on saturday morning - good to see the finsished result. I was there picking up my V8S after Richard sorted out some rough running problems.
Glad to hear your pleased with the results as i'm looking at getting the guys to fit a roll cage to mine later on this year - just as soon as the pocket has recovered a little.

Nice one. Yes, it was a big dent to the old credit card this time... what with a service and a few bits and pieces. Would have probably have had the bar back sooner, but Colin namaged to put his back out for a few days ... cannot say how impressed I am with the workmanship though .. Will take a few more crates of Stella down next time im in the area.(always believe in thanking the people with dirty hands, you never know when you might need a favour in return)
350zwelgje .. I thought about the side profile, but when you considder that by creating a front rollbar, you have to mount it somewhere. The rear bar is mounted to the transmission tunnel / diff hanger, and to the rear outrigger at the bottom. Steve Heath has a competition bar in his, and his is mounted slightly different, but generally both bars utilise the strongest parts of the car in their construction.
I would have thought that the thickness and the ammount of bracing required would be quite significant.
Unless ofcourse you wanted to go for an external cage as fitted to some landrovers .. not very aerodynamic though !.

I have a full rollcage in the 520SE now based on the Rollcentre cage used by the Tazzie racers. It has a front hoop with a bracing bar behind the dash and a side impact bar.
Absolute swine to fit and start stripping out the interior right now as it has to go to get the cage to fit. I had to move the dash forward about two inches to get the dash bar behind it which menat relocating the fuse box and other bits and pieces. The pedal box had to be modified to allow the bottom of the cage into the footwell and to provide additional protection for my tootsies. The arm rests on the door had to come out as well.
All in all very difficult and expensive. Tower View and myself did the work.

skyrocketship said: anyone ever rolled a wedge? (or knows of anyone who did) - just curious....
Shown a picture at a club meeting a good few years ago. It had flipped but saved by the boot resting on the armco at a track day leaving a gap. I think all were ok. Look at the Griff on here
Sobering.
Jason,
Looks the biz I hope your at Mania so we can see it in the flesh.
350wedgie... I've had a full cage put in the rally project Wedge (5 years in build so far -- x to go!!). It was fitted when I'd planned to use a FHC body and was tailor made by Tarcal (they fit Works rally car cages). The front bar as SHPUB (Steve) sais does disrupt things quite a lot and the cross car beam does indeed bu**er up most things behind the dash (not least the heater in my case). If really keen I'll dig out a picture I took before I removed it to fit the new DHC body or e mail and I'll give you Tarcal's number. However, look at Nacnud and Jason's items they really add to the Wedge IMHO.

Hi Jason,
When I called Peninsula for a progress report on my 400 last week, gave them the reg and they said - "ah yes - just waiting for the rollbar to be fitted." - almost fell off my chair, thought that was either a nice free gift following all the work done or a major error.
Looks good - btw - next time yours is in for a respray, let me know as I could do with one of those as well
Cheers
