Andy, London cariage did the glove box on my old 450 really nice job, sent the whole old one and they matched the finsih to the rest of the dash. Not cheap but quality aint.

There is a DIY alternative if you are good with wood, have patience and like to save a few bob.

Streaky Bacon did this for us a good while back :

If you're half decent with Rustins type F or Sadolin PV67 you can DIY. You'll need part-burr Walnut veneer (much cheaper than full burr, much easier to work with and its what TVR used anyway), contact adhesive, Lubrisil paper and the above finishes. 10 - 20 coats.

Time consuming, but very worthwhile. I remade my door strips this way, and they look WAY better than the originals

Phil re-veneered all my woodwork in 1994/95, it still looks as good now as it did then, he's Ex. Rolls Royce, and was still being used by RR for their R&D work when I last spoke to him, nice guy, totally obsessed by wood, you have to go to his house to believe your eyes, QUALITY!

Regards,

Chris.

Vote for Chapman and Cliff here. Was very pleased with the Clock pod surround, centre dash and glovebox lid which was at the time £180 - their website is www.chapmanandcliff.co.uk

Agree with Chris. Had my dash, glovebox and door handles done by Coopers about 8 years ago and they still look as good today as they did when they were first done. Cheers Steve

hello folks
I have just organized the replacement dash veneers for the 400/450se models (please see previous link )
I did say that if enough folks were interested I would do the three bits for 350/280 (how many different styles of dash are there?)
Everybody seems to be very pleased with their 400 dash, I am sure that we could do the same for the 350/280 model at a fraction of the cost quoted.
If approx 10 folks showed that they are interested I would post the samples and templates to check against.
Each 3 set veneers would cost about £60 delivered.(if you check the link you can also see my veneers fitted on my 400)
Cheers

Hi Steve

I think there are at least 3 stiles of 350i 280i dash/glove box/switch panel.

The main diferances are the glove box and switch panel with early 280i having a slightly differant dash panel. (But I am certain some body will come up with more differances)

At your prices I can have two sets done and have cash to spare!

I will get things started by posting my dash from my 350 tomorrow , this will show the style i can offer a template from.
We can see what happens from then , I still have some samples of the veneer which I could post straight away for those interested.
Cheers
Stephen
P.S. Any spare cash you may have, did I mention that I am a registered charity.

I have taken my dash set out of the car because the picture was not very clear regarding the positions of the clocks.
The centre / stereo veneer is bonded directly to the metal (as the each section of the 400 dash)
The main dash veneer is bonded to wood.
The glove box has a veneer both sides on to wood. (would recomend only replacing the out side veneer)

The first two would be easy to complete as the outside edge of both veneer set are covered, so once the new veneers are bonded you would only have to paint the inside edge where the clocks are (this is made easy because the new veneer comes with a film on the front ,which would be remove once complete)

The glove box will be a little more difficult and will take a little more time to patch up the outside edge but it is still a DIY job.

On my main dash the wooden back has bowed, wouldn't be a problem to stick the new veneer onto but i will ask if this could be costed in a suitable replacement (MDF)

Steve/Hotty

Your set up is a bit of the early system with the later switch panel. On the later 350i the dash clock is round and the glove box is different The veneer is smaller and encased with leather/vinyl.
That's TVR for you, change things just a little to make things awkward!

The later glove box set up (smaller veneer around leather/vinyl)is much easy to to fix and finish and much like the 400's (attached pic).
As for the clock being round no problem, as they would run that option also.

folks
to get things started if you want ,list your name as interested on here. then send me a email and i will post out the samples i have, with a paper template (without the clock cut out for everybody to mark/cut out ,then send back the template)
If enough people want a new dash (does not matter if the difference if old or newer)I am sure we could sort it out
the cost would be approx £60 each.

On the early Tasmin the instrument panel was a slab of plywood veneered in real walnut. Somewhere along the line it turned into Formica!
The glovebox lid you have (with the hinges on) is like the Tasmin's. The reason for veneering both sides of the 'ground' wood is that temperature & humidity affect both veneers equally, preventing the panel from warping.

Stephen, I'd be interested in a set for the 390: my glovebox differs from the one in your pic (it's a smaller veneered panel inset into the leather lid, more like the 400) and the instrument panel is veneer on steel (like the radio panel). I think the clock is circular... scratchchin

Had mine done at Chapman & Clift after getting quotes, and was very happy with the finish.
(I sent a good pic of my wooden steering wheel for them to match to)

I also got them to do an extra piece to cover the awful plastic ashtray
