Have a week booked in a cottage near Fishguard at the start of July. Never been to that area before so am looking for any guidance on days out, things to do see and also places to eat.

We are in our mid 30s and will be going with our almost 2 year old daughter, so looking for family friendly days and prefer gastro style pubs to michelin star restaurants. Any advice / recommendations welcome.

St.David's isn't too far away and is a good day out, and the days are best spent on the beaches or on the Preseli hills. Can't help with the restaurants though.

About an hour to the south is the Stackpole Inn:

https://www.stackpoleinn.co.uk/

We’ve been staying there every year for - I dunno a lot of years - it’s very nice. Barafundle and Broadhaven beaches (both awesome) are very close by, as are Carew and Pembroke castles, so you could easily make a day of it in that area. There’s also Pembroke Dock flying boat museum and Chapel Bay fort if you’re into that stuff.

Also Skomer Island, which has thousands of wild rabbits and Puffins (and lots more wildlife). You need to get to Martins Haven to book the boat over before 7:30 though! Maybe leave that trip until your daughter is a bit older! It is a great place though.

Newport (nearby) is nice. As said above We love bosherston Lilly ponds and it is about a 20 min stroll along the ponds to barafundle beach which is stunning.

Newquay is not too far away and good for seeing dolphins. We saw them from the harbour and had booked on a boat trip to see them up close but didn't see any. Got back yo the harbour, and there was 5 or more close in. Spent about an hour sitting on the quay eating fish and chips watching them. Amazing.

Your 2 year old will love Folly Farm. Do that. And the beach in Tenby is great, some nice new bars/restaurants overlooking the South Beach.

Oh, and Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park. Lovely walk down past all the animals to see the seals.

Saundersfoot (just along from Tenby) is great for rock-pooling too. Decent cafe right by the beach as well.

Getting a bit far from Fishguard though.

The best beach in Pembrokeshire is, IMO, Marloes beach. It's a bit of a walk and lots of steps from the car park, and there's nothing in terms of cafes or toilet facilities, but it's beautiful and usually not too busy. Broad Haven is a bit more family friendly and much easier to get onto though. Newgale, depending on what the tide is doing, is also very good and closer to Fishguard.

Restaurant-wise, I know of a really good place in Milford but that's quite a drive from where you'll be staying. The Druidstone, on the coast road between St Davids and Broad Haven, is very nice if a bit chaotic! You'll probably need to book in advance for dinner.

For pubs The Old Sailors in Pwllgwaelod which is practically on the beach and the The Cambrian Inn in Solva. The Druidstone is very good as already mentioned but It's likely to absolutely packed in July.

The best beach (IMO) is Barrafundle Bay but it's a 45 minute drive from Fishguard. Newgale is good but Broad Haven and Little Haven have better facilities.

Not really clued up on activities with 2 year old's but Folly Farm is probably worth a punt.

Thanks for all the recommendations. Got a great list of things to do now, many that I wasn't aware of.
