Hiya,

Has anyone had experience of contaminated fuel recently?

I have a Peugeot 208 which was running fine- until Thursday night!

I drove to work Thursday morning fine, went to fill up with diesel at Asda Coryton (Cardiff)- all fine, drove about 5 miles and parked for a couple of hours, but when I left to drive home there was no power- on the M4 I couldn't get above 50 mph, (30 mph uphill!), so I had to pull off and wait for help.

The mechanics can't find anything wrong and believe it is likely to have been bad fuel- has anyone else had this recently/ any experience with this? I would like to report it to Asda, but I feel like thy wouldn't take me seriously, and I'm not sure how to find out if anyone else has had similar issues.

Thanks smile

Make sure you've got the fuel receipt and get a fuel sample taken for testing - Can go from there based on the test outcomes

I definitely have the receipt- I double checked it to make sure I'd definitely put the right fuel in.. I'll see if they can get a fuel sample.

I can’t stress the above any further. Having worked for a major petrochemical co looking after their pipelines, and occasional fallout from cross fuelling, always,ALWAYS keep your last fuel receipt.

May be better to post this in the South Wales forum.

Hi I Bought diesel a week or so before XMAS at Asda Coryton petrol station and soon my Peugeot 407 engine stated to stall when starting and when in neutral at road junctions. Always restarted but then found I needed to keep foot on accelerator to keep car from stalling. Then car engine started to sound rough and engine management warning came on orange, Now concerned booked in a garage who with diagnostics determined contaminated substance in fuel tank the cause. Mechanic drained fuel from the system and replaced fuel filter and put some fresh diesel into my car but problem remained, he determined that this contamination has probably damaged the fuel pump and fuel injectors plus possible engine piston damage that would cost at least £3000 plus to repair with no guarantee that would be the end of the situation. so for me this cost put the car beyond economical repair. So what to do next. Repot officially to Asda and to my insurance and see what they have to say. I have my mechanics full report plus he kept a bottle of the contaminated fuel which he has given to me. I have seen an article about this issue on Wales online website which has alerted me that this not my fault.

Well it seems Asda are aware and investigating. I’d get the problem reported in writing along with any evidence you have ASAP. If they admit fault, great. If not, it’ll need to go through the small claims court.

I've had this in Bristol. Car started spluttering after topping up the diesel, then wouldn't even start. RAC recovery blamed me for putting in petrol / Audi blamed me for putting in petrol (even though I had the receipt for the diesel) Audi then stripped down the injection system and drained the tank to discover water contamination. Fortunately no damage done but it still cost £1000. Insurance paid out, but it took about five years to get the excess claimed back.
