Have you tried the Thistle Hotel yet? (formally the Park Hotel i think). Might be a bit expensive, but is just off Queeen Street in the city centre, maybe 10 mins walk max to the stadium.

How about the Future Inn by the cinema in Cardiff Bay. When the rugby was on and everywhere was full, they had availability (not because it's a dive, but because a lot of people still don't seem to realise it's there)

Or there is an IBIS in Churchill Way which has a good rate, not sure if they have car parking though.
