Welsh Politicians are the worst in the world at implementing their plans, but the best in the world at talking about them, and more talking, and then some more talking - ought to scrap all AMs and Welsh assembly immediately its just a talking shop at our Great expense.
You've got that right! Never wanted them, don't want them, and would happily get rid of them.
Bang on. Wait till they get their hands on income tax.

Its disgraceful. They are in public ownership now. We have paid for them. There should be no toll at all as its a huge disincentive to setup or do business in Wales. Imagine if there was a a £5 fee for every bridge in Scotland - they would all be skint.

In fact, why is the new £1.35bn Queensferry bridge by Edinburgh free but Wales (the poorest part of UK) gets fleeced? Tampin'! mad

Time for me to send my TAG back then!

Hardly use it anymore and would rather get it sent back before the rush!

Something they're not mentioning in the news is that when the tolls are finally scrapped it'll save a huge amount of time getting on to the bridge. You'd think that if SPECS cameras can use ANPR to reliably automate a fine at 60mph+, then the Severn Bridge could use ANPR to automate payment, perhaps in a dedicated lane, with a slipway after it so an attendant could charge any motorists that the ANPR misses. Imagine just being able to sail through at normal speed and think how much time that would save. Even slowing to 30mph would be good.

I work from home full time so lucky to avoid the tolls these days. If Wales really is getting income tax setting powers in 2019 though, I'll be off for one last trip over the bridge toll free. Unless they put tax down. Hah

I still don't understand why it's only VAT that's been removed... other than the government want's a little more blood money from drivers...although in the grand scheme of things a £100m isn't a lot in the nation's coffers....

On the BBC article they mention people moving from Bristol to Monmouthshire...

"We're finding a lot of young families are coming over, a few professional people are coming over now and are quite happy to travel from Wales over to Bristol - it's only 11 miles as the crow flies... it's quite a comfortable drive," said Charles Heaven, who owns Crown estate agents.

Bloody hell clearly he's never had to drive to Bristol to get to a meeting at 9.00am in the centre...it's hardly ever a comfortable drive at any time... Once there then you are always clock watching as parking charges are stupidly expensive ...

Seems like he's spouting crap to try and ramp up his business....

The thing I found baffling is the widely reported "£1400 a year saving for the average motorist", which the Conservatives are putting on posters and telling journalists. The saving for a car is £1.10 per crossing, which means this 'average motorist' would need to cross from England to Wales 1272 times a year to save £1400. That's not exactly typical usage! In actual fact, even if you lived on one side and worked on the other and commuted daily, with 260 working days in the year and for example 20 day's leave, you'd only save £264 a year.

Clearly. I was working near Aztec West and went in late in the mornings to avoid traffic. (I'd leave home at 8:50 -9:00 ish). Leaving early simply didn't work as I'd still hit traffic. Even 6:30 was insane.

Frightening isnt it.

Have you read the comments on wales online moaning about brige costs then moaning when reduced or going to be abolished. Wales is becoming a nation of moaning s. Wales could fly if it stopped living in the past and blamimg Westminster for everything.

Whats the other option - sucking it up/taking it on the chin?

How much to cross Westminster Bridge? A piddly £1.35 to cross the Humber Bridge if you have a Tag... Queensferry over the Fort - free... Even Kyleskue on the NC500 was free smile Its right that people consider this additional tax unwarranted and disproportionate.

You are setting up a business and need stock supplied and distributed by road - do you choose Chepstow or Avonmouth?

I remember when they were 50p in the 80's but they ended up at a huge £6.70 for cars and staggering £20 for trucks.

The Welsh Secretary, Alun Cairns, announced that tolls would be scrapped at the end of 2018, claiming that this would boost the South Wales economy by around £100m a year.

Lots to moan about - almost a full time job wink !

No, no! Traveling the other way and a saw Passat estate boot it from the roundabout in Avonmouth, a Rapide was a few cars behind. Just a coincidence then.
