I could definitely do the 29th if you don't
mind my 205 lowering the tone.

A 205 would be great. Neil has just bought a 1.9gti for fun/track car so you will probably be his new best mate when you turn up!

Great!

Start time will be 0930 to give people a chance to have some breakfast! Is this OK with everybody?

9:30 should be ok with me! Should take about 45minutes to an hour for me to get there!

I'll have to remember not to drink too much the night before!

I assume you've got more than the one fan in the shot on the website?

No, looking at the pic on their site. I'm more concerned about the airflow the place can generate.

The fan in the picture shifts a huge volume of air and creates a 75 mph draft. Never been any problems with running temps or ACTs, even when running 400bhp cossies for long periods.

Unfortunatly only 2WD at the moment.

Shaping up to be a good day!

All other things being equal I would like to bring the 993 along so please keep me informed. Should be interesting to see how it shapes up now and then in three or four months time when I’ve had a few extra bits done.

Garage19,

I'd like to bring my V8S, and as I'm based in Ipswich its not very far for me to come.

Quick question. Since AutoPoint have shut in Thetford I need someone local who knows their way round DTA engine management systems (for my racecar). Do you guys have experiance with the DTA Pro8 system?

Hi all,
well if I get the steering rack back from my mate who's welding it, and I can get it fitted back on I might be there, as all the other work I have wanted to do over winter is vertually finished or will be by the weekend, so fingers crossed,
Phil

We are currently looking at many forms of Engine Management, DTA being one, with a view to being a local dealership. We already have the software and leads, etc, and will happily discuss with you what you need and what we can do for you.

Looking forward to seeing you on the 29th.

Hello All

Hopefully you are all still coming to the Rolling Road day this Saturday. Thought I would just post to give you some information regarding the day that I hope you will find useful.

Preparation:
1. Ensure you have a good supply of fuel in the tank. A couple of power runs will not use much but as a rule of thumb, half a tank would be a good minimum.
2. Ensure you check engine oil and water levels and top-up as necessary.
3. Where possible check gearbox and diff oils and check for leaks.
4. Tyre pressures are very important for accurate readings so ensure these are set as you would normally run them or as specified by the manufactuer.
5. Ensure you have towing eyes, etc, to allow us to strap the car down using the tow points wherever possible.
6. Ensure wheel nuts are tight and secure and that none are missing.
This about covers it for preparation, we do however have a pre-check on the vehicle before it is run to ensure we are happy. We do reserve the right not to run a car we feel is unsuitable but this has not happened yet.

The day:
We are starting about 9.30 in the morning, and we will be running a first come, first served system. One note of caution, the main entrance into the yard has a slight hump, if you usually ground the car on speed bumps, etc, ensure you approach at an angle to avoid this.
On arrival the owner of the vehicle will be asked to complete a Disclaimer before your vehicle is run. On completion you will be given a number for your run and you and your guests will be issued with Passes to allow you to wonder the workshop. On the day, anybody without a pass will not be allowed in the workshop - always cautious with people walking around other peoples cars!
Cheap refreshments will be available on the day and if demand dictates we will fire-up the BBQ!!!!
Prizes will be awarded at the end of the day - categories to be confirmed. We will also hold a question and answer session at the end if needed. The cost for the Power run is £35.00 including VAT. It would help if you have the correct money available as we hold very little change on site.

The Power Run:
Once the pre-check is complete, your car will be driven onto the rollers, settled and strapped down. We will then discuss with you anything we feel relevant and take on board any comments you may have. Only two additional people will be allowed in the booth with the vehicle (usually the owner and a friend). There is, however, a large viewing window for others to spectate.

Each power run will then consist of the following:
1. One gearing run to allow the rollers and software to ascertain loss factors at the wheels.
2. Two power runs will then be made taking the vehicle initially to the redline and then backed off if the power curve dictates for the second run.
You will then receive a graph detailing the following:
1. Brake Horsepower at the Flywheel
2. Torque at the Flywheel
3. Drag co-efficient - allowing you to calculate loss through the drivetrain and show BHP at the wheels
4. Air/Fuel Ratio curve throughout the run.
The main fan used simulates 75mph winds into the front of the vehicle. In addition we have upto six fresh air points that allow us to blow air onto different areas of the car (rear engined intercoolers, etc). The exhaust gasses are then vented by another fan at the rear of the vehicle.

On completion the vehicle is allowed to idle and cool and is then removed from the rollers, ready for the next one. At this point you will be shown your graph and you may ask questions if you have any. Then you can pay!!!!!

I hope this is of use to you all. Sorry it so long winded but I thought it relevant as most people run their rollers in different ways with regard to process, etc.

If at all possible could all who are attending sign-up so I can get a rough idea of numbers for the day. Of course, people can turn-up on the day from PistonHeads and we will try to fit you in. The Rollers are NOT open to anybody else on Saturday - only PistonHeads.

Feel free to e-mail if you have any questions.

I will not promote the business on here as that is not the way we work (plus I will get in trouble) but we will, of course, be on hand during the day if you have queries on anything else.

We are very much looking forward to Saturday and hope you are too. Will keep an eye on the weather and will be in touch during the week should anything change.

Many thanks to Doug for his help on this.

Regards

Neil @ LPS

Neil.

Thanks for the informative explaination of the days proceedings and I will definately be bringing the V8S for a run.
Just one note though - you may have to be inventive about how you strap down TVRs. None have rear tow eyes and the front toweye on Griffs/Chimaeras and S's are on the chassis rail that runs across the vehicle just about where the scuttle panel is.
