Just wondered if any EA PHers would be interested in joining a group of Lottery players to increase the odds of winning.

Unfortunately that also divides the size of any payout by the same amount. I believe the odds are exactly the same. Sorry

no, john75 is correct...cos you are buying more tickets you ARE increasing your odds of winning...however as you say the prize will be smaller

AFAIK the lottery chances of winning the jackpot are about 1 in 14,000,000. If i enter with 4 people i can cut it down to 1 in 3,500,000... but take 1/4 of the money.

As I see it you can't view the lottery as an investment... you're not so much purchasing a chance at millions as purchasing hope!

Nothing wrong with buying a lottery ticket every now and again, it's the ones that do 30 a week + scratch cards that puzzle me.
It's just a gamble like you would make in a Casino or Horse Race only the potential winnings are higher as are the stakes.

Somebody has to win each time a Jackpot is claimed and they only win it with one line, it can be anybody who's bought a ticket.
I do a lucky dip if I remember on a Saturday, I've even tried the Eurodraw.

So if you correlate the higher odds of winning with the reduced payout, it's the same odds overall.

I have a better deal that guarantees you a win. For everu £1 you send me, I will send you back 50p winnings by return. Why waste it on the Lottery, which is, after all, just a lottery?

the prize amount actually has nothing to do with the ODDS of winning....it's a separate thing totally
