Never been on a plane before....
Discussion
Although the "square" windows of the Comet 1 are often cited as the cause of the break up on G-ALYP, the crack which caused the plane to come apart actually began, not at a window, but at an aperture in the roof under which was located the Radio Direction Finding aerial.
When the RAE at Farnborough tested the Comet 1 fuselage in the specially built water tank, the failure DID occur at one of the passenger windows.

I agree, it used to be much more civilised. I remember when people used to dress smartly to fly... now airports are full of the great unwashed.
'no frills' airlines and Club 18-30 have a lot to answer for. I remember when airports seemed exotic, classy and futuristic places, now they're just giant bus stations (in this country at least)
