Yep, due to circumstances beyond my control, my beloved GTR will soon be up for sale

It will be at Stoneleigh looking better than new, if anyone wants to make me an offer!

Now that is v. sad news - but trying to give you a very small positive angle to the situation, in amidst the emotion, at least you can think of what might replace it with?

Well, thanks for the sympathy everyone!

This is something that has been on the cards since January, so it is not a decision I have made lightly.

MG Mark, you are right. I have something in mind as a replacement It will be smaller and require less capitol to buy!!!! I have always had a soft spot for MG's and Triumphs. Will probably have around £5k to spend. Not sure what that will buy me as yet, possibly an MGB or a Stag. I would love an older MG (like an A) but they are very collectable these days.

Gary,

That is a shock. I never thought that you would sell her. Hope you get sorted with a replacement okay. Someone is in for a cracking motor.

Sorry to hear that Gary. Always like to see your car at the meets! Thought you might be thinking of swopping it for a Noble!

Looking forward to seeing what you get.

You could almost certainly pick up a useable MGA for around that mark - an older restoration which wouldn't be concours, but it wouldn't be a dog, and could be improved over time, or the patina of age kept and the car just maintained and used as it was intended. For all its good looks and relative rarity, if I was selling my Coupe, it probably wouldn't go for more than £7.5k. You would certainly get a very tidy MGB for £5k, or an even better MGB GT. I wouldn't touch a Stag with a barge pole - too much trouble with the original engine, replacement V8s upset the balance and it is a relatively large and heacy tourer (but then I am biased....).

Not that 'bad' really. No where near enough to do anything daft, if that's what you are thinking!!

I have spent the last 15 years working for, basically one company. 95% of our work was through this company. Our main contact there has moved on to pastures new, which has left a bit of a hole in our work load (to say the least) It'd not what you know, it's who you know and the people now in charge have there own ideas.

I wasn't naive enough to believe it would last forever, so I "made hay while the sun shone" A lot of hay actually. As a result I was able to pay off the mortgage, extend the house and put money aside into ISA's etc. If I sold everything I own, I could emigrate with about £500,000 in my pocket. In fact the only iresponsible thing I did was to buy an Ultima! I don't regret buying it though. If I hadn't have, I wouldn't have had the privilege of knowing you all, espiecally Ian Beech. You cannot put a price on that!!

MG Mark, thanks for the advice. I shall be keeping an eye out for an MG of some sort
