RAF Marham Charity Track Day Weekend

Most of you should know the drill by now but heres a summary of what it's all about

RAF Marham have again invited PH forum users to a Charity Track Day Weekend on
Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th April 2010.

Pistonheads have been allocated

75 places for Saturday.
75 places for Sunday.

PH's who want to do both days is not a problem I know several do.

Please note - There will again be dedicated sessions for drifting on the day the ABS group attend (very likely to be Sat) (non drifters as previously can take advantage of the quiet track conditions when the drifters are on track) we hope to make some small changes to ensure the cones stay in place - Filled with concrete should ensure that they are given a wide berth :laughs:

RAF Marham Trackday organiser said:
RAF Marham would like to invite you to a Charity Track Day Weekend on
Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th April 2010.

The track uses a combination of the airfield's main runway and taxiways
resulting in a track that is around 3 miles long consisting of wide, smooth
tarmac and concrete with lots of safe run offs. There will be approx 1
mile of the main runway in use with many sweeping curves and chicanes along
the taxiways.

The Track Days will run from around 9am to 4:30pm on both days, split into
either 30 or 60-minute sessions depending on numbers of participants. All
the necessary facilities, such as toilets, catering, drinks, marshalling,
medical and fire cover to support the event will be on hand. The
atmosphere and event is relaxed, enjoyable and safe.

All participants who will be going onto the track, either as driver or
passenger, will need a helmet. Race suits are not needed, but natural fibre
clothes with full sleeves and legs are strongly recommended. Cars must be
safe and in road-worthy condition, with normal seat belts as a minimum, and
a fire extinguisher secured safely in the car (a plumbed in system is not
necessary). If the car is driven to the event then it must have valid
insurance, road tax and MOT. For those driving open or soft top cars,
irrespective of whether the hood is raised or lowered, it is strongly
recommended that appropriate extra rollover protection is properly fitted
to the car, unless the car's windscreen structure was specifically designed
to provide such protection.

Please note, due to lack of space, only vehicles driving on the event, and
tow vehicles where applicable, will be allowed access - all passengers must
arrive in participating vehicles.

Note we now have to implement a noise limit to reduce impact on local
residential areas. No unsilenced exhaust systems will be permitted. A
noise limit of 105 dB will be enforced (measured at 0.5m and 45 degree
angle from exhaust exit at 2/3 of max rpm). Cars exceeding this limit will
not be permitted on track.

Sharing a car is permitted (i.e. alternating drivers between sessions) and
drivers are allowed to carry one passenger in the car onto the track, but
passengers must also comply with regard to helmet and clothing and be over
16 years of age. All drivers and passengers will be required to sign a
disclaimer. Spectating is not a possibility unless the individual is
coming to assist someone who is driving - the reason for this is quite
simple - the event insurance premiums and Health & Safety requirements go
through the roof astronomically otherwise, so by restricting it to
participants and assistants, it makes the event manageable, safer, more
relaxed and enjoyable and importantly keeps the cost down to you.

Prices:

Single day - £70 for car and first driver. Additional drivers or
passengers are an additional £10 each.
(e.g. Car and 1 driver, £70; Car and driver plus 1 additional driver or
passenger, £80; etc)

Full weekend pass - £120 for car and first driver for the weekend.
Additional drivers or passengers are an additional £10 each for the
weekend.
(e.g. Car and 1 driver, £120; Car and driver plus 1 additional driver or
passenger, £130; etc)

Payment must be made in advance, cheques need to be made payable to Service
Funds RAF Marham and of course signed and dated. We are expecting a high
number of participants so it is advisable to get your name down early.
Please note cheques may not be cashed until 2-3 weeks after the entry
deadline, please ensure sufficient funds are available in your account.

It is important to note that the track does attract stones. The track will
be swept prior to the event to minimise stones but if you drive directly
behind the car in front along the main straights your car could be subject
to stone chips. If you’re worried about this it is advisable to fit bonnet
protection or drive with this in mind throughout the event.

PLEASE NOTE: RAF Marham is a front line operational air base and as such,
any operational commitments on that weekend would lead to the Track Day
being cancelled. This is however quite unlikely but prior notice will be
given and any money paid up front would be fully reimbursed.

Important:
For security reasons, every person entering the Base including all
passengers must be security vetted in advance. Everyone entering the Base
will be required to present Photo ID. Your forum organiser requires the
following details and payment from drivers and passengers by Thursday 18th
March 2010 to allow time for the security team to check everyone. The
details required are listed below and it must be stressed that they will be
held in the strictest of confidence. Please note that after this date, only
changes to vehicle details will be permitted.

Required details:

PAYMENT by Cheque/Postal Order payable to Service Funds RAF Marham

Forum - ie PH (not a Marham requirement - just to help me manange 3 forums)
Full Name (Surname, Forename) YOUR REAL NAME NOT FORUM ID
Full postal address
Tel No.
Date of Birth
Place of Birth
Passport No. (if possible)
Car make and model (of both track car and tow vehicle if your car is
trailored)
Car registration (of both track car and tow vehicle if your car is
trailored)
Day you are attending: Sat/Sun or both

Don't forget all the money raised goes to some very worthwhile charities
and causes!
So that's all the stuff you know so now READ BELOW

This is going to seem really fussy or rigid but it's going to have to be - sorry that's just the way it needs to be - if you can't comply with my policies below don't ask to come to the event

So message me with your details points 1 - 9 please be nice and format the information properly with caps and lower case as you would expect if you were co-ordinating the attendance of nearly 200 cars and people. I can just copy and paste it into the database.

Should you chose not to format the data properly you might want to understand the next statement and what effect it can have

You are responsible for the data - if I have to re-type it because it's formatted badly you should know I am dyslexic and what that means.

I'm not responsible for any errors in transposing data that result in your security checks failing and your entry being rejected before the event

(Plus it really creates a shed load of uneccessary work for me..... so just play nice - please)

Example

PH
1. Child, Brian
2. 18 Trackday Road, Northampton NN18 1P
3. 01973 212223
4. 12/01/65 (UK Date format DD/MM/YY please none of this US format stuff)
5. Northampton
6. GB01458965
7. Track - Opel Monza GSE, Tow - BMW 740
8. Track - B5 GSE, Tow - A3 OCD
9. Sat & Sunday

Then follow with additional drivers or passengers as required 1-6 for all please

If you can't message me because you are "too new" - post up in this thread and I'll message you as soon as I see the post and don't worry we will soon be sorted

On reciept of your details I will add your details to the database and respond with an email detiling where to send the cheque or Postal order to Note - PAYMENT by Cheque/Postal Order (in £ sterling please) payable to Service Funds RAF Marham - No cash by post please.

Please do not send cheque just beacuse you've been before and know my address - wait for my email confirming I have your details or it could all go pear shaped.

Once the cheque is sent don't bombard me with emails requesting confirmation that I have received the cheque - if 200 people do that it's a nightmare

I will confirm reciept of the cheque closer to the event with enough time so that if one or two did go missing in the post we can sort it out before I have to pass the payments onto Marham.

I will respond, but only very gently, and particularly so that people are not under any mispprehensions.

Most of the local residents live in the Service married quarters and single quarters on the station, and work and/or live there with their familes, and are accompanied by the sound of freedom ringing loud and long 5 days a week (or 24/7 when deployed to hot and dusty places), so the respite from that at the weekends is welcome. But they do all appreciate that what we do is to enjoy what we do and raise lots of money for Service charities, so what we do is tolerated within reasonable limits. Similarly, most others also do, who live in private houses nearby.

Of course, I may be wrong, but I am not aware of anyone who has actually failed the noise test...... In terms of the limits stated, just don't expect to pitch up and drive with an unsilenced or especially noisy system and be tolerated.

Looking forward to seeing you all there in April!

EFA (sorry Mark)

My Monza just fails the limits for most of the UK circuits but it's not excessively loud - just a tad on the noisy side

The car that probably sticks in the memory most was a year or so back - a Mazada MX3 with a side exit exhaust and no silencer at all - that probably took the piddle a bit as you could hear it pretty much everywhere on the circuit from the pit lane area

Me too - Monza will have had a bit of a diet by then - can't add bhp then add less weight - someone well known round these parts said that laugh

I couldn't possibly comment, but that is one interpretation you could apply......

Look forward to seeing/discussing a slimmed down Monza with "added lightness", although you could, of course, add a tad of toluene to the petrol to boost the fuel octane rating. You will, I think, be pleased to hear that the MGA is now back on all 4 and running well after winter work with the front suspension completely rebuilt, which was necessary after a number of years of exuberant and enthusiastic driving-induced wear to the kingpins, a couple of the trunnions, all the bushes, and the brake calipers (whereby the pistons now all move in and out with equal ease). The engine will have to wait until next winter...

In that case I apologiseas I got the wrong end of the stick, thinking it was local rather than base residents. Hope everyone enjoys it anyway.

Hi, I've done this event a couple of times before via a cross posting on SeatCupra.net and would like to come along again.
As I'm new to PistonHeads I can't pm - please can you email me and I'll provide you with my details.

Thanks for organising this.
