Hi folks, I'm likely heading back to NZ after a longish stint away and want to bring a few on my cars with me.

I've seen threads in the past with guidelines on costs and things to watch out for, I was wondering before I kick the process off if there have been any changes for personal imports? I've bought a car home before quite a while ago, hopefully, it's still a relatively straight forward process.....?

Any info will be gratefully received.

Thanks

JF

Check the NZTA web site for the latest info on personal imports..

Get the vehicles checked thoroughly, especially for any signs of rust before sticking them on the boat. If there's any sign of rust, make sure you've got a good idea as to what it might cost to fix, and then decide whether or not you want to bring the car back.

You might want to bring some spares with you, especially if the cars are not common in NZ.

What part of the country are you coming back to?

Thank you for that.

I'm most likely heading back to Wellington/Nelson (ish).

My other worry is about servicing - only Auckland and Christchurch seem to have good coverage for Italians?

There's a few places in Wellington that are good for Italians, at varying prices. Depends a bit on whether you're in the city, up the coast or out the Hutt. Drop me a PM if you want (I'm in the city).

As XOcette mentioned, check out NZTA website - in particular compliance with regulations (frontal impact etc) - NZTA are helpful if you contact them directly for advice too. I've previously imported vehicles altho some time ago. I'm based Nelson - can put you in touch with local Ferrari owner if you want to chat re where they go for servicing. Having the cars scrupulously clean prior to departure and brakes etc in good condition will minimise required work on arrival. I believe it's common to be required to replace calipers / pads as part of compliance.

Thanks. I leant the hard way about the cleaning with the last car I shipped back. Big bill and damage as part of the clean is not something I want repeating.
Please let me know the details of the Nelson-based Ferrari Indy.
I'm happy to get the older of the two serviced there but ideally, I'd like newer one serviced by a dealer - I take it Chch and Auckland would be the only options?
