Oh yeah... Exige for 2008 for sure.... but it's not nearly exciting as you think.... may just be getting an Emerald MD-3K ECU for christmas for my current Elise.... will just allow me to keep better control over the engine given the better breathing it has now and also should give me another BHP or two.
You're going to need more than a couple of hp to keep Dean and me honest George
You been following the KingK saga on Exiges.com and Seloc? I can't make up my mind if he's onto something or not. Prove will be in the pudding I suppose.
Oh for sure... don't worry, Exige or no Exige, I've got no illusions about keeping up with hybrid Londas..... having said that, I'll probably eventually build the Exige into a K20 hsip... but that'll be around 2010 or something because realistically, that's probably when I'll have the money to do it. I'd LOVE to stay with a Rover K, but will probably just be too expensive.... unless sometime in the next few years someone comes up with an affordable high-hp kit.
To be completely honest, even I got a bit tired of the local chavs comming home in the early morning, even if they did try and go 'quietly' up the driveway.
I think instead it would be a better idea to enforce proper building regs, and ensure that every house has double glazing and insulated (& soundproofed) walls, that should take care of it, as despite being packed in like sardines over here in the UK, the houses (properly built ones) block out more noise.

yeah thats a fair point, I guess soundproofing may be worse than average in my flat too. Mind you, students are probably also less likely to get annoyed by noise than older folks.
Some of the 'boyracer' brigade so have pointlessly loud exhausts though (I guess they're trying to compensate for something) which can get annoying, but to be honest the main noise disturbances we get aren't from loud cars driving past, its from the neighbours deciding to have parties any time they feel like it, such as starting at midnight on a wednesday (I guess you expect that in studentville though) and a few trucks grinding their way up the hill onto the motorway, you don't hear them much unless the other noises have all stopped though.

128 bhp/L from a K? thats a pretty impressive claim for a road motor with long-term reliability. Got any links to more info?
That about the same power:capacity ratio as a 'busa.
I wouldn't have thought a K bolt-sandwich could do that without going BANG or having a 50-hour rebuild cycle.
Waiting expectantly to be pleasantly surprised . . . make that stunned
230 is not that hard with a K. But you need to spend a wedge to get there. In fact Dave Andrews one of the best K series tuners in the UK recently had one make 263bhp and 171lb/ft in 1.9L guise.
Trouble is there is a certain gentleman Simon Erland otherwise known as KingK who believes the K is one of the all time greatest engines. Its reputation for HGF's and grenade like tendencies at power levels over 200bhp is mostly in his opinion down to poor tuning/parts and a lack of understanding of the root causes of its problems.
He has gone on to make a number of claims that a reliable 230bhp+ is easily achievable at reasonable cost. No one has yet seen one of these engines, although promises of wait and see have been coming for a couple of years now. He has delivered a few 200 - 220bhp engines but reliability is yet to be established.
What he says does make a lot of sense to lay people, but due to his confrontational approach he has pissed a lot of people off who really are in the know.

Back on topic, we have our fair share of ricers out here in Pukekohe. The thing that cracks me up the most is half of them can only afford a 1.3 auto the remainder of their meager budget goes on a big fart box at the back. The resulting sound track is hilarious, I often can't help but laugh out loud when one goes by, which generally results in a scowl from the spotty kid at the wheel

The law should be based on quality and not quantity. I would be willing to be the sound police if required. I've yet to hear one of these boy-racers with a 20-inch sized universal muffler that sounded anything more than painful.
We've run my TVR up without the exhaust system on (i.e. just the headers) and even though it was very loud it was still sexy. I wouldn't mind a sound like that going passed my house at 3am!

Spoken like a true petrolhead.... the trouble is that so much depends on who would end up becoming the final assessor... god forbid a Rotary fan became the arbitrator.... there'd be endless BRAP BRAP BRAP BRAP sounds going down the motorway every night.
We seem to be drifting a bit O/T here...
I read the test procedure from the LVVTA, and here's what i got from it with respect to my car (modified 993RS with Cargraphic N-GT exhaust system):
Standard Noise level 95 dB
Engine behind Driver 4 dB
LWF/Gearbox noise 2 dB
Total 101 dBA
With Manz license 103 dBA
Whats really interesting is the engine speed at which the measurement would be taken:
Stock engine 4600 RPM (or so)
Modified (limit unknown by tester) 3200 RPM
Using best case scenario 103dBA @ 3200 (Cripes it may even pass!!)
