Interesting that you post this (last) vid so soon after the Mr Smooth one, Ben. This guy seems to be revelling in the controllability/ predictability of the micro-Mazda - he seems (to me) to put in a bit of deliberate sideways action for the camera while still being pretty quick. Presumably the veteran Porsche driver of your "smooth" vid would be significantly quicker though-even were he in an MX5??
The bloke in the MX5 is just having a laugh, IIRC he's an instructor at a Nurburgring based race school so knows how to pedal a car - theres another vid around of him chasing down and passing a 996 GT2 in a standard engined MX5.
Agreed that he would have been quicker without the sideways antics, though its not always as different as you might think - while I'm obviously not that good, from my own experience I was only a couple of seconds per lap slower around Ruapuna playing drifty-games with my tyres gone off compared to my attempts at driving smoothly.
I would consider Mike as a friend of mine.....I have worked with him and his son Anthony in the UK.

On the one hand, it was unfortunate for such silly behaviour to put a driver out of the rally who had put in so much effort to be there, and was doing rather well...on the other, I laughed so hard my stomach started to hurt.
