Hi chaps, can I have some recommendations for detailers in Essex (Chelmsford way) and an idea of what it would cost for a good clean, polish and removal of some scratches, nothing too major.

I was thinking of buying the gear and doing it myself but to buy the proper stuff aint cheap and I think it would be cheaper to get someone that knows what they are doing despite being tempted to give it a go. More so, I'm worried I would get addicted to it!

Haven't had them work on my car personally, but looking at who/ what they look after I think you're in safe hands smile

It's easy to do yourself if you did fancy a go. You just need a decent DA Polisher and some pads and compound. Very satisfying to see the end result. I've done mine before and plan to do it again next week.

I would like to do it myself but not sure what kit to buy etc. I know the net is awash (get it) with detailing info but its a bit like information overload. I know it would be uber cool to do it yourself. What gear have you got if you don't mind me asking?

I havent't seen their workmanship as I was hoping they would be able to repair a scratch, but it was too deep so I had to respray. But they gave me good advice. Seemed like decent people, quite a good selection of cars in their car park gave confidence.

I've got a Das 6 Dual action polisher which is basically the same as the Meguiars one only cheaper. I have a selection of Meguiars pads. Red for harder paint / more severe defects a Yellow one which is good enough to remove swirl marks and a Black pad which is a finishing pad. I usually use Meguiars Ultimate compound which gets rid of swirls and defects which I follow up with Meguiars finishing polish with the black pad to really bring out the shine. Usually just top that off with a coat of wax.
