Just wanted to make you all aware that if you are going through the traffic light junction of the A127 and Progress Rd as you come into or leave Southend, the traffic signal cameras are also "speed on green" as I have just discovered to my cost frown They never used to be, so don't know when they changed, but changed they have.

52 in a 40 before you ask!

Cheers
Rick

Thanks for the heads-up Rick. Sorry that you had to be the sacrificial lamb.

A giveaway are three painted lines on the road after the STOP line, apparently. It seems that these are the lines from which they can calculate your speed to backup the radar reading.

Although it might be a bit late to do anything about it if you've gunned it to beat the red light biggrin

Good shout, thanks for highlighting those as well, had no idea as they were always just for the red lights too. Guess we'll have to expect they are all dual function now frown

I’ve just received one of these for exactly the same (51 in a 40). Smells like some sneaky money making considering the road.

Anyone know what the likely outcome is for a 1st time offense?

Under 53 is within the guidelines for a Speed Awareness Course unless you've been on one in the last 3 years; in which case it should be 3 points and £100 fine

I too have been recorded at 49 mph at the same traffic lights. A bit strange as 99 times out of 100 I turn down Progress Road and cannot recall going straight over on the date in question. Will go down an have a look at the positions of the cameras.

All traffic signal cameras are being changed to combo. Some spotty oik has realised people put their foot down on the Orange light.

A12 into Romford got me 6 points in a week when they changed them.

Sooo, £91 fine and a course it is! Somewhat frustrating but never mind.

Ah, never mind. Hopefully they'll have biscuits on the course. Just tell the Speed Awareness chap that you were perfectly aware of your speed, as you were gunning it before the lights went red. I'm sure it'll go down a treat biggrin

My friend got done doing 53 through the Progress Road lights. I myself thought I'd been snapped behind Bas Vegas.

I really hate traffic light cameras. I used to boot it through to make sure they didn't suddenly turn, but I can't do that anymore! It feels like Russian Roulette every time.

Have you been on the course yet? Were there biscuits?

The bellhouse Lane/A127 camera must be raising serious amounts of money. I got fined in August and three of my work colleagues have also been penalised since then.

The nasty/crafty thing about this site is that there are no secondary speed road markings at the location.

Unless you are aware of it's existence most drivers will probably believe the camera is for the junction lights only.

The camera was previously only used for that purpose.

Obviously the local constabulary are looking to increase their coffers
