Live just outside Shenfield in Hutton, just off Hanging Hill lane.

15 min walk to Shenfield Station & then 30 mins to Liverpool St and of course Crossrail.

House prices are crazy. Ex council house, 2 bed mid terrace getting on for £300k.

Shenfield High St is ok, but prefer Billericay for more variety and better pubs & restaurants :-)
I’m tbf other side of the station to you In shenfield and I tend to agree .
Shenfield is mobbed now I’d go Billericay or ingatestone
In all honesty Billtown isn't a whole lot better (sun corner is a nightmare at rush hour and school out times) & it's getting worse :-(

I lived in Billericay for 3 years before I moved to Kent, and I’d agree with irocfan about Sun Corner. That said, getting into London was extremely easy, the fast train only stopped at three(?) places before Liverpool Street and the amenities are excellent. Generally I really enjoyed living there, and met a lot of friendly people. I’ve worked a lot in Brentwood and found it to be, as other have said, completely different with regards to economic and social circumstances. I’d look further out, Warley, Billericay, Herongate Tye etc for instance.

actually, B's even better than that...

mostly the stops are Shenfield, Stratford, Liverpool St but (IIRC) once an hour there's an express which does away with Shenfield. Mind you if you work in the West End you've now got Crossrail to make life easier (or will have imminently)

Lived in Chelmsford for over twenty years, boring homogenous high street, but its absolutely not rough.

Commuting into London is 30mins on a direct train (although most stop at Stratford and Shenfield which are circa 40mins)

Crossrail is not ideal for getting across London as it stops at all the TfL rail stops so will be a long and frustrating journey.
