Probably the one that lives round the corner from me and the reg used to be 'G120UP N' or something, which looked cool, but now think it's on a much shorter reg like two letters and one number. They've got an immaculate old Panda amongst a couple of other nice old cars.

That would've been the one. Possibly seen (and mentioned) that Panda in the past.

This morning & a white Jag XK150 cab in the city centre.

It's kind of like shooting fish in a barrel around there now that Woodham Mortimer are next door, but a one of those Mercedes G63 AMG 6x6 things being unloaded from a trailer outside Saxton 4x4 early this morning. I thought they only produced an extremely limited number of them (150? 200?) so how they got their hands on one of them to sell I don't know, or whether it's just being placed in the showroom or as a promotional thing perhaps.

Never seen one of those 6x6's (unsurprisingly).

I always thought they were a dodgy dealership of some flavour. Are they legit?

A large business and legit, but they just are in just in the epicentre of tasteless 4x4 lust (Chelmsford, Essex), so are always going to have myriad customers desiring a newer 4x4 for £20 per month more than they are currently paying, because of course it's all about image innit.

Curiously, it seems difficult to find anything online relating to it now, but a few years back they were importing vehicles and registering them as being years newer than they actually were (a German 2011 RR Sport registered as a 2015 model when it was brought over to the UK, for example) and got their knuckles rapped hard for it.

My sister in law did a bit of temp work there just on the reception desk a while ago and said the turnover of vehicles and number of customers coming in to collect cars and enquiring about cars was staggering. Dozens of customer collections every single day.

I also went in there for a nose once before when they had a Q7 I was interested in. They have their tasty cars in that big posh glass showroom, then you go out the back into what can only be closely described as a hanger, and there are just rows of Cayennes, Range Rovers and Mercedes GLs as far as the eye can see. The staff go around on golf carts there.

They didn't have the greatest reputation before they moved to their shiny new HQ - plenty of somewhat negative reviews regarding the quality and prep of cars plus perceived lack of after-sales care.

I went there a couple of times when I was looking for a Touareg back in the day and always left a little disappointed.

They must be doing something right though, so fair play to them.

the amount of money sat outside Saxtons is quite staggering - and then there's the properly pricey stuff in their showroom (convertible Bentleys etc)

I know we are off topic a little but I have oftern wondered whether they own all the stock or whether some/a lot is SoR - looking at their website, the top 10 most expensive cars comes to well over £2m and they have hundreds of cars available at any one time.

As others have said, it appears so and the stock value they hold is just crackers.

Not somewhere I'm likely to buy from but a friend looking for a Q7 spoke highly of them, even if he didn't actually buy from them in the end.

That one's often in Chelms city centre - colour suits it IMO.

when they were in Hutton (opposite Mesken) they had a somewhat less than savoury reputation (not shysters for sure - but nearer Daley's Motors than a main-dealer), my understanding is that these days they've cleaned up their act so credit where it's due

As Kim says, it always seems to be busy and there are always lots of test drives going on, so they seem to be doing a really good job.
