I'm looking to buy one in the next week. With money as no object, which is the best I can get?

I would suggest the Valentine 1. I have had one for a long time and really like the directional arrows.

At the same time you have to remember this is not diplomatic immunity - you have to keep an eye out for plod...

Escort Passport 8500, depending on who does the reviews, often beats the older tech in the Valetine. The arrows are nice, though (although I don't favor them enough to justify the $100-$200 premium for the Valentine and to justify its worse performance in actually detecting the radar/laser without falsing...).

I'd look at several reviews then choose; there's radartest.com, C&D (although many point out that it's odd how the Passport won most of their objective tests by WIDE margins, but then the Valentine, which takes out a full-page ad every month, won overall. ;-) ), and many others online; each mfr. will probably also refer you to several reviews -- which favor their product, of course, but many are big-name, respected reviewers and both of these models (plus the Bel Pro RX65, which I've usually seen come in 3rd, so I discounted it) have their fans.

If your state allows them (This info is also available at most detector-testing sites.), I'd also consider going with a laser JAMMER (not radar jammer, which is illegal nationwide if 'active jammer' so legal ones work minimally to not-at-all in independent tests), if you drive often where they use lots of lasers.

I've a V1 as well, you can buy a repaired V1 with 12 months warranty a lot cheaper than buying new off them
if you want to save a few $
