Importing a write off

I've been offered a pretty decent spec Impreza wagon which is now eligible for US export but the issue is it was previously a Cat C write off. I'm looking for something to put away for a few months until the transatlantic crossings reopen and I can proceed with moving, would I be able to bring in a Cat C or would they not permit it/register it? The nightmare would be it getting rejected on entry with the cost involved in shipping it. Would appreciate any advice on this as it's the ideal spec and I know the damage wasn't anything that puts me off

I don’t think the US officials check for this sort of thing. Is it noted on the V5? But how would the US DMV know about the various categories ? If the car has been legally returned to the roads in the U.K. it’s a road legal car right? As long as it’s still pretty much factory stock and the physical VIN matches the paperwork I’d say you’d be ok. Not much help I know.

It says on the V5 as it was a cat C. I read on a shipping site something about the car needing a clean title but couldn't find a definitive answer
