I'm taking my 15 year old son to California in July to visit a few Universities, flying into San Francisco and then flying out of Los Angeles. The plan initially was to fly between the two, however it became apparent that one of the best roads in the world goes between the two, so the plan is to now drive between the two, with a couple of stop offs (maybe Carmel & Santa Barbara).

I'd like to hire a 2 seater convertible, Porsche Boxster or something similar as want it to be a fantastic experience for him.

Any recommendations on where to hire one ? Ideally pick up and drop off at the relative airports, but if that isn't possible it not an issue.

I always do Sixt, usually very new well specified cars and the pricing was never to awful.

If you go for a local specialist you will pay a lot more and given you want a one-way rental most likely you are stuck with mainstream firms who have locations at start and finish of your journey.

There don't appear to be any mildly interest rental options with the mainstream company unfortunately, and probably as you say to do with the 'one way' rental.

I need to find something.

You might be in luck: I think some of the big companies do have a sort of premium selection.

eg Hertz offer a Mustang convertible (or similar) $151 per day

Example: 20-24 feb
