Ate in there for the 1st time a couple of weeks ago, wasn't that impressed with the food, I queued for ages as well.
I used to work at Jacks in Sandhurst and that one was very good, although this was around 15+ years ago! Cod & chips for £2.40
Was Jacks the one that was demolished and built on?I used to work at Jacks in Sandhurst and that one was very good, although this was around 15+ years ago! Cod & chips for £2.40

Only I didn’t as it was open during lockdown although the indoor seating was closed off. Today the site was fenced off and there was a pile of rubble in what was the car park. The building itself is still standing though. By 7 1/2 years
I don’t go for fish and chips often, once or twice a year at most. The time before that was in 2015 when I went down to Bognor on my motorbike and got stranded by a dodgy immobiliser.
Edit: this google review tells me it was open less than a month ago!

I think it was finally gated off about 2 weeks ago. Up until then it had still been open as about a month ago there was a reasonable sized bike meet in the car park one lunchtime.
From what i can find online, the previous landowners (engaged as part of the failed Tesco deal) allowed Jacks to trade on site whilst they sat on the land and considered future plans for the site to be redeveloped. In 2018 / 19 they submitted plans for the site to be redeveloped into a multiple storey live in care home facility. This was granted but due to a large number of conditions put in place limiting the number of storeys, concerns over limited visitor parking, etc, plans were shelved.
It appears that in early '20, once the pandemic kicked in, another land management company (based on the last registered owners of Jack's on Companies House) bought the site and allowed trade to continue whilst they submitted changes to the existing redevelopment plans. It appears that was approved earlier this year after site usage was changed from care home to managed retirement living apartments in association with McCarthy & Stone.

Evidently Lidl also tried to acquire the land in 2020 but failed - at which point they turned their attention to the units currently occupied by Pets At Home & Cotswold between Subway & Waitrose.

Thanks for that! I think there are quite enough care homes and retirement homes in the area. My teenage and early 20s haunt Pantiles nightclub was turned into one some time ago.Gassing Station | Thames Valley & Surrey | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
