Come on, you didn't really believe today was the last day, did you?!
So... for fun.... decided to call the HA for an update on the finish date....HA... can I help you?
Me: Yes, I am calling about the end date of....
HA... Let me just check..... ah... good news... I can see they finish today, last day of June.
Me... That's what I thought, but you are also showing overnight full closures on July 3-8th, 20th-22nd July and 24th-28th July.
Ha... Oh.... let me try to get hold of a project manager and call you back......
eta.. just had a call back from HA (a surprise in itself) they are awaiting final sign off of the works, which should happen before close of business today, once received, the smart Motorway works are complete.
The closures above relate to bridge works which they were not able to complete in time.
Also, there will be a 50 limit in place for the first few weeks while they calibrate systems (Or make sure speed camera work I think they probably mean!)

parts of the northbound carriagway are a real mess from the multiple lane changes etc, they really ought to resurface the lot of it before they finish it off.HA... can I help you?

Also, theres loads of hatched areas they haven't painted yet.
I see the "55" speed limit, that was briefly in existence on the southbound side, has been returned to 50. I wonder how much all those "55" signs cost them for those 3 or 4 days of use
Also, lots of big bright yellow signs also advising how the 50MPH speed limit will remain in force for the foreseeable future for "testing and commissioning" purposes. I guess a few more weeks wont make any difference - we've already had quite a few years of it

And in a online news interview I read this evening, open on time, said the project manager. One lane of the off-slip from the M25 was still coned off, the 50 average b*llocks was still in operation as they presumably haven't quite worked out how to create a queue using stupid speed limits, etc. (they could get some tips from the morons operating the M25 stretch from J12 to J11 as that is usually travelling at 20 to 25 mph - makes the posted 50 limit a dream)!
I read the same comment about the quoted "project manager" - he must have got his job last week! It has over-run by over a year, just to put up some gantries, a concrete barrier up the middle and to widen a few slip roads!
Still it could be worse, but luckily I don't use the M4 anymore. I think that is the next planned disaster area!
