No morning brew tea / coffee.
But would also be handy to give you a nice warm facial - Bellmarsh style.

Saw 4 police motorbikes on M3 northbound earlier escorting a range rover with another RR behind

Just seen that Princess Anne was in Basingstoke earlier, would she warrant this type of convoy?

I may have been a bit naughty/foolish tonight and was somewhat above the 70 limit south bound on the M3 through the average speed zone towards fleet.

I'm not sure how many gantry cameras I went passed before I remembered and slowed down back to 70 but how many do they typically need to get an average speed?

Also I know it may be an old internet story but do the cameras activate on the national speed limit or only when the 'smart' motorway reduced limit is used?

Probably deserve the ticket to be honest but would like to know if I have a chance of redemption?

Yes.
But why would she want to go to Basingstoke FFS?

I wouldn't go there even with a Plod Escort (or Focus in the modern world)!

It's not exactly like it has anything deserving of royal attention, unless there is a potential prize winning nag out that way!

They aren't average speed cameras, they just measure speed as you pass each one. If you didn't see any flashes from them they won't have taken your picture so you'll be OK.

You'll be OK up to approx. 85mph with these ones anyway (unless a variable limit is displayed).

Ah thanks for the info.
Definitely didn’t flash so hopefully should be alright, still need to slow down either way hehe

fk me they're still dragging this out.
Came through last night southbound and there were 50% lane closures in both directions between 2 and 4.
Most of the lane closure seems to be so the "work" force can come and go from the motorway in their own special lane. Heaven forbid they should have to mingle with us mere mortals.

Well the strip out of the Jct 4a 'depot' is in full swing. The exit directly onto the slip road has now gone, grubbed up, and there was an excavator reinstating the embankment in it's place. So maybe there's good news on the distant horizon...?

Something on the horizon?
Quick! Close the nearside two lanes and instigate a 50mph speed limit.

For the northern section maybe.
The "M25 to Solent" strategy says they'll be upgrading J9 to J14 to smart motorway from 2019 to 2022

banghead

Anyone got a gun? Some rope? Pills & alcohol? How is it possible that "they" still think that "Smart" motorways are some kind of good idea?

I've got most of those things. Are we going to use them on the Highways Agency?

FFS.
So after being roundly slated for work sites being too large at fifteen miles, steways England are going ahead with a mere ten mile site from Winchester to Southampton.
Utter. Cretins.

ETA:
Came through late last night again, southbound.
50% lane closures 2-4 both directions again.
ONE works vehicles in sight at J4. Two oafs fast asleep inside.
Epic work ethic.

Two things,

steways England ( I like that description) - sums them up a treat. Far to many big framework contracts and back room - brown envelope deals - they all have their Snouts in the Trough - far to many chiefs driving round in fancy cars with big fat pay packets for doing not a lot.

The two lads (Oafs) in the work vehicle would be the TM gang (Traffic Management) waiting for the call to say start removing said TM so not a lot for them to do while the closure etc is on.
However they are supposed to be keeping an eye on it. I assume they are just bored so easy to doze off.

Talking of safety have a look at this, quite shocking that their was no pre-work briefing or safe working zone put into place.
Some P45 should have been handed out, at the start of the project sadly a Vac-Ex operator lost his life,
Balfour's safety record does not make good reading.
Could have been a very bleak Christmas for some families.
