Heading back to Camberley from Heathrow at midnight on Monday I saw the Usual "M3 exit west closed" ,so I took the slip road to the A30. At the bottom of the slip road there were roadworks on the roundabout with no entry to the A 30 only a left turn towards Staines.
After a circuit of Staines town centre I got back on the A 30 at Egham congratulating myself on the absence of traffic and looking forward to a clear run to Camberley.
At Sunningdale the level crossing was closed for maintenance so I took to the back lanes through Windlesham.
That must have taken some planning by Highways Agency.
Close the M3 and then close the diversion route in two places as well !!!
Well they are experts now - they have had about 4 years to practice fcensoredg up the roads around here after all!

My favourite was when they resurfaced the A30 near the Audi garage at the Meadows Roundabout, they had single alternate line of traffic, while the M3 was closed and the A30 was the diversionary route.
Absolute genius.

Oh FFS.
So pretty much west central London to beyond Reading. Special kind of incompetence to sign that off as a project
What I don't get is all this is being done in the name of improvement and expansion, which is great, but blissfully overlooks the fact that although the end result may be a suburban nirvana where housing springs up, supported by a newly rejuvenated road infrastructure, no one wants to live anywhere the works or anything to do with them.
We're in the process of looking to move away from the South East, with the relentless roadworks being a significant factor.
Way beyond acceptable.

Came back along the M25/M3 last night

Isnt that VIP inside lane a wonderful thing?

The great unwashed even leave the one next to it vacant as well so you an overtake the occasional lorry without dropping from 70

As if all the smart motorway bks kisnt enough, there are now two separate bids to build a motorway service area between junctions 6 & 7. Obviously the 23miles between Fleet and Winchester services is just too much for some.
No big deal, until you read that the proposed plan involves a new-build junction with elevated section to take northbound traffic
across to the southbound side, just before J7.
Luckily, local MP Maria Miller is doing all she can to block any plans on the basis the M3 and the residents it serves can do without more bloody roadworks and services.

expect people to drive 23 miles without a Cappuccino when it's clearly impossible to walk around Waitrose without one? That's abuse.

On Thursday one of my co workers was double flashed by a camera between J2-J3. And in the NP&L someone reported that they had been sent a NIP by the Surrey Police going past a camera on the M3 for 100+
3 weeks on, he hasn't had a request to donate to the Surrey Police Christmas Party Fund as of yet.

Yes, I used 2 VIP lanes coming home tonight!

It seems like we had a 3 lane motorway but people only used 2 of them, now we've got a 4 lane motorway and they still only use 2, or 3 on a good day - what a waste! banghead

All I miss when I use the ‘special’ reserved lanes is a motorcade alongside me .... so funny they don’t even seem to notice you glide by. Loving the new sheep, saves me 20 mins a day!

To quote Jeremy Clarkson from many years ago 'They've build another lane on the motorway but they've put it on the wrong side' Depressingly accurate.

Flashed up 50 today on the overheads, pedestrians in the road. Camera flashed a vehicle on the other side which caught my attention, had a look in the mirrors to see nothing displayed on the overheads. Then they popped up with the pedestrians in road, 50.

Would the camera flash before the signs go live? There was no pedestrians in the road either.

There's been quite a few 50s with Debris in Road message lately. Perhaps the operators get bored or the kids are in school hols. Years ago near J3 I did drive over somebody's work bag. Flask or similar exploded under my front wheel. Thought the wing was hanging off. Used hard shoulder promptly to check for damage. Ah, the good old days... but then again no VIP lanes back then.

I used it on Sunday from J4 to J2, and after J3 saw at least 3 signs with reduced limits and "workforce in road" warnings.

I got to J2 and didn't see any "workforce" - I expect they just signed on for the overtime then went down the pub! laugh

But after that I still got to enjoy the misery of the backing up on the M25 from J12 to J11 with 40 limits (when you are doing up to 20 if you are lucky) with "queue caution" warnings until J11 when it all goes back to N/S/L and the queue magically disappears - why don't they give the limit operators a proper Bank Holiday and save the overtime, at the same time giving road users a rare treat? banghead

I saw the 50 and debris signs with no debris followed by blank gantries, the M3 seems very forgetful in not putting up the NSL signs at the end!!

J12 of the M25 is always busy. It’s because two motorways join each other and it’s only three lanes over the top. 12 - 11 is the worse because J11 is three lanes underneath and is so close to J12. So everyone is swapping lanes and it causes the traffic which then disappears after 11. Been like that for years.

I've seen the "Pedestrians seen in road" message with a 50 limit on the M25 and M3 recently too, but on the M25 there have been at least two occasions recently where it persisted for many miles (Surrey section) with no hazards apparent and no sign of any Police.

I don't know where these pedestrians keep coming from but surely the reports can be narrowed down to a shorter section of motorway which would have more of an effect on traffic IMO.

This is so true. 12-11 is crap almost permanently and then smooths out on the journey down to 10.

We get shed loads of pedestrians/cyclists. The HE set signals on both carriageways (why you may ask, well quite a few recently have seen fit to cross to the other carriageway!!!)
They set them depending on the calls and will set them between junctions.

So if a couple of people call in saying pedestrians between 10 - 11 then on both carriageways will be the reduced limit and the signs. If someone else calls in between 11 - 12 the signs will be set between 10 - 12. (It doesn’t matter whose wrong).

It takes some time for police to get there (there’s not many left!) plus once plucked from the motorway it then takes time for the signs to be cleared.

I think that’s rubbish I don’t for one moment believe there are actual pedestrians or debris on the road. I used to get it a lot on the M40 towards London early mornings (before variable limits - this was just those warning matrices). Total bullst. I don’t know what the reason is but there must be one.

Regularly there is debris and pedestrians on the road. You may think it's rubbish but you should be thankful for the information especially if you are about your vehicle / hitting people in the carriageway.

Motorcyclists lives can be saved and no doubt often are if they are made aware that there may be debris in the road. The fact you don't see it yourself or don't believe it doesn't detract from the fact it may have been there.
