I'd have to move somewhere like Camberley or further out into Farnborough to get what I wanted, but then I'd be well away from where actually I wanted to live. Nor do I want to live somewhere like Camberley or Farnborough for various reasons
I can relate to that as I live in Sandhurst!

But when Mrs Tidy and I parted ways my choices were rather financially limited. rolleyes

I would have much preferred Dorking but sadly the numbers were never going to work.

What specifically is wrong with Camberley or Farnborough?

There is nothing specifically wrong with either, but of the two I'd prefer Camberley to Farnborough. If I was thinking of Hampshire I'd much prefer Farnham to Farnborough.

It's just how places "feel", and you'll only get that if you go there and drive around a bit - especially within the area around a property you might like the look of.

I live in Dorking currently, used to live in Reigate.

It is a nice enough town but not a lot going on. The outdoors are great if mountain biking, walking etc is your thing!

Probably moving back to Reigate/Redhill when work from home comes to an end for a better commuter link to London Bridge.

I've previously said that I did move to a great detached cottage near Dorking, paying the same monthly as the one bedroom flat in SW London that I had left behind.

I'm always looking to move back but since Covid I've noticed the rentals have shot up and not much choice.

Meanwhile, round here, SW London, the rents seem to be dropping.
