I drive down from Hook to Honiton down the A303 regularly and it take a good 2 hours with your “foot down” so going down the A30 will take at least twice along. There are good country roads but it would be slow going during the day.
Yep this isn't going to be a short drive, I did the drive from home to Plymouth at least once a week for over 6 months and did manage some rather rapid journeys along either then M4/5/A38 or the A303/A38 however the A303 and A30 can be a bastard for mobile speed cameras at times.
I suppose it would be wise to book hotels now whatever we do, seeing as they are likely to be full. Also most hotels will not do a Saturday night only booking so it might be a question of phoning round. Hopefully we won't have to spread out into 4 - 5 B & B's between us.
Are we there yet? Are we there yet?

God. Been on phone ringing around. Everywhere either booked, too small or too expensive.
All I could find availale is this; which only have 6 single rooms and 5 twins left. It's about £80 a room. It has parking e.t.c. Might do the trick. But don't know what the final destination is.

I guess camping or static caravans might not be a bad idea...
Falmouth hotel looks nice though.

If you select 'North Coast & Newquay' and 'Caravan/Camping Parks' it comes up with loads of options...

There is always Newquay, I know a pretty funny static caravan park if you want me to dig out the details, it's a short drive from Lusty Glaze (oh er ) beach which has a top bar on it (if slightly drunk person unfriendly steps)

Did someone suggest tents earlier? Could be a laugh...
TBH thats the only way I could afford to go (I'm a right cheap skate at the moment, sorry). I do enjoy camping, would be fun.
Has anyone ever been to Sunnyside in Newquay? Would be a new experience for some of you I expect....
one that I don't wish to repeat!

Sounds perfect - can you either send me the details of the caravan park or call them and find out if they have availability?

If we found a place with static caravans and places to stick tents that would probably sort the problem for all?
Good shout.
Only thing I'm worried about camping is being weighed down by excess gear on the drive.
If we distributed the tents etc amongst the cars....even up the power to weight ratios a little

what you mean is... attatch 2 caravan's to the fastest cars then every one else can hold the sleeping bags and add on tent
