Focus RS MK2 owners feedback
Discussion
Evening all.. Had a drive of a mk2 RS yesterday and mighty impressed. House purchase meant I had to sell my old cars and currently running an e92 320d at the moment but bored to tears!! Am i right in thinking these seem to average around 22-28mpg depending on type of driving and obviously the old right foot?? just need to know what the fuel economy is like as this will be used daily for commuting to work etc.
Im looking for a straight standard car preferably white with black wheels. Had some insurance quotes that are coming out less than my BMW which is surprising!
Anything major to look out for? I gather the intake plenums where prone to going bang on modified cars?

Not RS owner, but I understand the RS is very slightly better on fuel than the ST, and I often struggle to get below 25mpg, with a remap and no other mods. Considering some of the horror stories I hear of high teens from other owners, I'm quite happy with this. Mixture of 6 mile commute, motorway miles and "enthusiastic" A road driving. Servicing and insurance is same as ST, (I pay about 28 quid a month on a service plan which includes a service every 12k, MOT and AA). I was told that some parts (like the wheel arch liners) are stupid money compared to the ST, but it's generally seen as a slightly better built car in terms of quality.

Have you seen the one at Western Ford Newcastle? White with black alloys, standard, low miles, can probably knock him down to 20-21k as I've been watching the car for about a month now with interest and seems to be still available.... Viewed it and drove it yesterday but not for me. http://www.westernnewcastle.co.uk/ford/car-details...
I have had one since new in Nov 2009. It has the Mountune 350 pack on it.
I highly recommend them as they have lashings of easily accessible power and torque, and more grip than you'll need. Ignore the haters claiming they have too much torque for fwd, they cope just fine. The noise it makes gives me the giggles to this day.
The negatives: I get between 22 and 24 mpg but I do drive it correctly.
Mine is a rapidly snowballing mass of trim creaks and rattles.
Wheels are amusingly easy to kerb.
Consumables can be expensive though tyres are cheaper than they used to be.

Very good & robust cars in general
Try for as late a car as you can as the early ones can have some issues which were resolved on later cars
Check where the rear bumper meets the arch as it can rub & cause corrosion
If the car is at all modded (even the approved mountune mp350) get an up rated inlet it's cheap insurance against the stock one exploding & destroying
your bonnet
Look out for modded cars that have been returned to stock to sell
Rs direct tend to be the dearer end of the market but they know these cars like no other dealer & tend to have only the very best cars

Had one for about 7 months now. I would look out for rust round the arches as it will happen. Only major thing I would advise to look for is the coolant as the standard intercoolers are very prone to leak - it may be a good idea to look for one without the standard cooler.
I do 19mpg in my city runs but on main roads the mpg does improve allot if ur not heavy footed.

I think you mean radiator. Edited by Lumpyuk on Friday 25th April 15:03
Had mine for 5 years this June and still love it. Luckily enough to still be on original radiator
I would think most cars now would have had all the updates done by Ford.
Don't be too put off by a nice modified one, the Volvo lump can be very reliable, but that's dependant on tuning.
