Any owners on here? Are they as good as all the reviews say. I need a daily for work that is fun and cheap to run while my other car is being rebuilt.

Great cars the Fiesta ST. Honestly though, i'd go for the Clio 200T. I know that's gonna cause some controversy and many won't agree but i just really like them. I've driven both btw.

The Polo GTI's are lovely too. Depends how you're gonna fund them. They have some belting deals on the Polo and they did (not sure if they still do) have some good ones for the Fiesta aswell.

The only way of getting a decent value Clio would be on the used market.

I suspect Renault would have sold loads more if they were 3 door and manual. Big mistake on their part and the sales figures reflect that. I can't even remember the last time I saw one on the road.

That would seem the general consensus. Seen a few owners comment about harsh suspension so maybe that would need to be considered depending on your daily drives.

Personally, I'd get a Polo GTI. Fiesta wouldn't know which way it'd gone.

Well done that man!

I own one, have done for 18 months now and almost at 35k miles.

It's hard as dicks, rattles, it's about as refined as wiping your arse with sandpaper. Oh and if you blink once someone will have probably tried to nick it (it's that bloody easy).

But it's an absolute hoot to drive, it's a proper fun little hot hatch. It's cheap, comes well equipped (mine is ST-3 spec), has superb seats and it hasn't put a foot wrong since I got it.

I would ignore the "too common" comments, just because a car sells well it doesn't make it any more or less worthy.

I'd have to agree there. The Polo GTI is an absolute flying machine, has been underestimated in almost any review you find. I'd go as far to say it's the best hatch available now, especially if you fancy chasing down M3s on your commute.

However, I would suggest only getting one if you're interested in buying fairly soon. Once summer is over and it starts raining a bit more I'd say your only option is a new Focus RS. IIRC, it's the only car available today that can be driven in wet conditions. Anything else explodes immediately.
Good, I'm glad we're on the same wavelength. If it rained and I didn't have a Focus RS, then I would have to call in sick.

0.2s in the 0-60, same weight, same power (within a few % anyway). Not exactly a walkover by any standards at all.

The Fiesta is limited to 180hp in 1st and 2nd, after that it's up to 197.

Personally I'd probably have the 208GTI with its cool panoramic roof. All great cars though.
I'm afraid those stats lie. The Polo can live with any exotica.
rofl Is this the same Polo GTI that intimidates Fiesta St's with it's Daytime Running Lights, eats Golf R's for breakfast Focus RS's for lunch then dispatches with Megane RS's & Civic Type R's for something to do!! wink

It's a conspiracy by all journalists to not let the world know, but thanks to one person we now know laugh

Back on topic the ST is as good as they say as has already been posted go for a test ride to make sure the rides not to firm & look out for any that have had some Mountune upgrades they're always worth the little bit extra.

This (apart from I've only had mine for 4 months and can't comment on the theftability, although I do drive it like its been stolen). It's superb.

Just had a browse through this thread and this comment made me laugh out loud.

You also have to remember the Polo is built in Spain and the Fiesta is built in Germany. Thus, the Polo has better build quality.

I've owned mine for two years, went with a mountune upgrade and have been very happy. Does everything pretty well... But it is a 5 door.

Fiesta ST - too many around, one of the most popular cars 'round my way. Was tempted for a short period wrt to Mountune but no.
A victim of it's own success, and relatively low price. A bit sensitive to tyres, but a great front end considering there's no LSD.

I do hate driving past the same car as me, especially in the same colour.

However theres a reason theres tons, absolutely brilliant chuckable light rear end fun.

I ran one for two years as a daily and hated it. The hard ride didn’t bother me as I had a Corolla Compressor on coilovers before which was just as hard. The worst part of the Fiesta was the horrific interior, so cheap and nasty and the sound quality of the infotainment was laughably bad. I also found the Recaros really uncomfortable.

Admitably the engine and handling were pretty good, just the rest of the car really let it down if used as a daily.

Mrs Garvin has an ST3. It is a fantastic little car to drive and I am sorely tempted to have it as my own daily driver as she now wants the latest 3 pot ST but the 5 door variant.

Everything about the car is ‘spot on’ except the hideous Nokia style dash which is an eye sore and difficult to use on the move! However, for a front wheel drive car the torque vectoring system is nothing short of witch craft - the front end grip is just stunning.

In summary, yes it really is as good as the reviews make out.

PS : watch out for those pesky Polo GTIs, they move so fast you can hardly see them but the give away is a fast moving blue haze coming towards you and a fast moving red haze going away from you!

I am on my 2nd ST.
My first was a 2013 that I owned from 2015 to 2018. Ideal car, IMHO but they seem to have issues with the handbrake. My OSR caliper kept sticking on and consequently the handbrake didn't work too well. I changed it because of that and 2013 and 14 cars are currently subject to a recall that takes 2-3 days for a coolant sensor.
I therefore traded it for a 2016 Fiesta ST with a Mountune 215 kit. The fact this one was Spirit Blue rather than black also swayed me.
After I bought it, I checked the MOT history and it seems this had handbrake issues too but it had new discs and the handbrake works so assume they sorted it.

I went and test drove a 2016 208GTi before buying this ST. It was nicer inside but I am afraid the power delivery was a disappointment. It was quick but always felt a bit flat and getting back into my Fiesta, it quickly fell off the list. Additionally, two friends who work at a Pug dealer suggested I might become overly familiar with the workshop.

Polo GTI was too expensive and looks dull and poor value so I skipped that. No Clios round here so the only way of getting a car as good as my old ST was to buy another. The Mountune came with it but doesn't add anything particularly noticeable saved an increased insurance premium.

In my view, the ST performs extremely well. The seats wrap round you but suit the narrow of frame. Fatties might find them uncomfortable. I also don't find the ride unacceptable, it's typical sports hatch. The interior may not be great but it's functional. I'm not a gadget geek so none of that crap bothers me. Steering is good, grip and handling are excellent and the power is delivered in an immediate and effervescent way which is where it scores over the 208.

I am not ordinarily one to buy the same car twice. This is the first time and I did it because I was scared I would end up with a car that I would forever think was inferior to the ST.

The theft issue is principally the ST3 so stick with the ST2.

My Mrs ST2 is a late 14 car, I've checked on ETIS but there's no recall for it. I thought the Mountune didn't affect insurance, maybe that was just from new. I didn't think it was worth £600 so I didn't bother.

It became very annoying finding a quote for the Mountune. Without a registration, it threw up £238 for ST215 but when called upon to put in a registration, it changed to 250. Not exactly a fortune but it's easier getting a quote for a standard car.

It may have been something I read on here. From new it was an extra, afterwards it was a modification? Not sure DTD had it as an option, and anyway Marshalls couldn't do it.

A set of Frentech caliper pins sorts the problem with the rear brakes. Mine is a 2016 and had the same problem. Its a common issue.
