I had a diesel ST3 and it was a great car, I actually preferred it over the petrol
Have you owned a petrol as well to compare it with? From what I have learned from talking to people who buy the diesel ST is that they generally cover a higher annual mileage so prefer the significant fuel consumption advantage the diesel model provides. Plus there are no external differences between the 2 so nobody knows you are driving the diesel which some might consider to be the lesser model.
I've still got mine. 2016 facelift hatch. I've fairly piled the miles on this year, mainly due to covid preventing me from getting my usual airbnb earlier this year and having to do a 180 mile a day commute. I was getting a very reasonable 35 mpg on mainly A roads and dual carriageway. It was costing about £25 to £27 a day in fuel. It's been a nice place to be and is very well run in now. Luckily I did quite a low mileage in the first 3 years. First MOT it had done 17k miles and now on 37k miles 20 months later. Only faults has been a wonky headlight that the dealer diagnosed and fixed for £75 and a split intercooler pipe that was replaced under warranty. Oh and a leaky aircon drain pipe that I replaced myself for £10.Finance is all paid off and I'm happy to keep it for the long term. Not really a fan of the mk4 although I'm sure it's lovely. Price has certainly shot up on them.
