Hi,

I'm thinking about buying a Ford Focus. I test drove one recently and it drove beautifully, but I noticed that when we went over a series of seams in the road surface on a fast road, the bounce was poorly damped, and the car felt a bit like a bouncy bed. It still bouncing some time after my old Mondeo would have smoothed out entirely.

The salesman said that there is a Focus with harder suspension and I wondered if anyone has tried that kind of car and would know if it sorts out the bouncing and if it brings any other problems?

Thanks!

Which model did you test drive?

Assuming you're not looking for an RS or ST..... try a Zetec S (now ST-Line) as they come with sports suspension so will be stiffer. Mine holds the road really well, very little body roll but the ride is smooth without being harsh.

Thanks, that's good to know. It was the ordinary one with the 1L engine in manual that I test drove. It really was very silent and smooth in all situations except the fast road and I was very impressed.
