Moving to the lands of RHD and will need to buy a car. Can get employee discount on Fords, so maybe a Fiesta ST? Are there still leftovers? Better to wait for the 7th gen car? Better go buy a Golf?

A Golf is not in the same class as a Fiesta, it competes with the Focus.
A Golf R does not even compete with a Focus ST, it's up against the Focus RS.
For you to be considering a Golf R as an alternative to a Fiesta ST does not make sense, because they are so wide apart in price/performance/refinement.

Yes, that is true. Started with the ST because I can get employee pricing through family. Same folks did not like the Focus ST as much, and the RS does not have employer pricing.

Now I need to buy in January and the new ST will not be out then. No leftover STs seem to be about, so maybe there will be an ST Line available or I will just get something different altogether. Like a Golf.

Remember its not what other people like, it's what you like that matters.
The Focus ST is a quicker and much more refined car than the Fiesta ST, but some people prefer the more wild ride that the Fiesta offers.
If it was me and I could get Ford Privilege discount I would go for the Focus.

If you get Ford Privilege I would definitely get a Ford. Surely a Golf equivalent would cost massively more than the Focus?

If you don't need the space and want a pocket rocket that handles like its on rails, Fiesta ST

If you want more refinement, a bit more power and space, Focus. But slightly less thrills. And slightly higher running costs.

Fiesta ST vs New Fiesta ST - unknown quantity so difficult to call.

I know more now, and it's not altogether good. The key new fact is that I need the car on January 15th or a couple of days around that date, and I need it in Scotland (nearest decent size city is Dundee). I'm coming from the US and need a RHD car right away.

The easiest course of action would be to buy a new car, but the current Fiesta ST is not available to order now, and the new one will not be available until later in 2018--too late for me.

The Fiesta ST-Line will start being built in September, so I could order one in November for January delivery. The Ford Privileged plan cuts about 1,000 off the price and there are a few other cost reductions depending on paint choices. But it is not a ST.

Maybe by October/November some of the current 5-door Fiesta STs will show up on the used market. If so, that would be a good option if I can buy one from a dealer. I don't want to hassle with a private sale.

GTI or a Focus ST/RS are a lot more money and less attractive a ride for the dogs!

Not really sure what you are meaning there.....are you planning to transport dogs in a Fiesta ST?
If so they would find the ride much better in a Golf GTi or Focus ST. biggrin

P.S. It was you who originally mentioned Golf as an alternative, and the most expensive R model at that. wink

In that case I think you are choosing entirely the wrong car for your needs with a Fiesta ST.
You still desire power and performance so get a Focus ST estate(wagon in USA) using your privilege discount. smile
