If I am careful on the motorway I can just get 30, never had more than that though.
mine is running stage 1 map with cat back exhaust & ive not noticed any difference in MPG- if anything on motorways because of the extra torque it achieves better mpg.
I shudder to think what your mpg on a motorway would be without the remap then.
Seriously....that is a truly shocking figure for open road driving. eek
I honestly cannot understand how you could possibly be that low, unless your definition of "careful" bears no relation to what the word actually means. confused
It’s not too dissimilar to other people who have posted on here- some have said 34-38 MPG- I also am not working off the trip computer either, I’ve been using an app (Road Trip) which is more accurate. The trip computer always over estimates anyway & that 34 screen MPG is more likely to be nearer 30.
It’s very rare I have a long motorway journey anyway so my MPG is always going to be low as it’s a weekend toy for me rather than a daily- whenever I do drive it on the motorway an overall average of around 30 is more than acceptable for me- I certainly didn’t buy the car with any desire for it to be economical.

Now you have added more detail. smile
You simply said 30mpg was the best you could get when driving carefully on the motorway.......but naturally a journey of only a few miles will not necessarily be more economical than any other one.
To compare fuel economy you need to measure each journey individually.
The longest motorway journey I do with my current car (Audi S3 Saloon) is about 40 miles, and this together with a further 10 miles of A roads can return an average of 39mpg when driven carefully.
I also never bought my car for fuel economy, but on a motorway is where it should be most efficient.

Thought I would ask another question on an old thread.

I’m toying with an RS, I love them. I had an ST 180 diesel from 2015-2018. I loved it, despite it being one of the more unreliable cars I’ve driven, having a shocking turning circle and very hard ride.

Is the Focus RS really an car that can be used everyday?

My mileage is down massively since having my last Focus. I do 15,000 miles a year now. My commutes are very similar to the op. I do spend a lot of time on motorways.

The reviews I’ve read say the RS is a very harsh car to drive everyday. Hard ride, high seats, heavy clutch, bland interior.

I love the idea of a something as nice as the RS but am torn with going for a more normal hot hatch. I was surprised watching a review on the I30n that on a run it was achieving 31mpg. Based on the posts here, for motorway driving that is more than achievable in the Focus.

So are they worth having as an everyday workhorse?
Have you found any models for sale you like?

"Is the Focus RS really an car that can be used everyday?"

Yes absolutely, roomy, decent level of equipment, comfortable, security of 4wd, etc. Quicker to list the downsides - fear of theft, no spare wheel, insurance if you're young !

No, it's not 'very' harsh. If compared with ST's & other similar vehicles, I'd honestly say it rides how I'd expect it to.
High seats? well I'm 6'2'' & have spare head room. ( Recaro shell seat option in mine ) Ford did offer a lowering kit for the seats but sit in one & make your own mind up. Quite frankly the visibility in most cars is now so poor, with thick pillars, high bonnet and tiny rear windows, I don't want to sit on the floor looking at the sky !
Heavy clutch? that's 100% wrong, or they had a faulty one. It's quite light, as is the electric power steering for that matter.
Bland interior? well it's typical modern stuff, some say the outside is bland too. It's personal taste, again I can only suggest you make your own mind up. 'Bland' is a subjective description of 'style' not a comment on ergonomics, usability or equipment levels.

33 thousand miles on mine now, used most days all year round.

Well you can definitely run one as your daily I did it for 13 months , it is a harsh ride at lower speeds but you get used to it faster you go the better it feels , I got rid of mine as I just did not gel with it as I did with the mk2 which I prefer. As for MPG I never got it above 24 with a mix of school run and motorway.
