What the hell is BD?
If said in rapid succession I suppose it could be Twiki from Buck Rogers. biggrin

Apologies. Silly me, expecting folks on a petrol heads Ford forum, to know about probably the most iconic engine developed by Cosworth since the DFV, and used in pretty much every competitive MK I and 2 Escort rally car..Based on a Crossflow block I might add...:Mention of a Ford BD is hardly cryptic rolleyes

Fantastic. Thanks for posting!
My favorite Valve cover.
Reminds me of the DFV covers, so similar.
I guess the BD head evolved from the FV, hence the similar looking valve cover.
Have you done much spannering on BD’s?
I would like to start building a new alloy block BDG next year.

Agree the engines look great, and invoke a lot of nostalgia and memories of a great period in motorsport. Fantastic to drive, not super fast by todays standard, but what they lack on power they make up in engagement and smile factor when you are revving them hard. The two I have were complete and running well, so not yet have I had the need to repair or modify as yet. Good luck with your build and do post some pics to educate others on this 'legend' of an engine.

I'm involved in historic rallying.
If I post pics of a mate's BDG, can I also post the FIAT twincam?
Maybe we need a "4 cylinders and two Webers" thread.

Post away Old Chap! I’m not a fan of Italian engineering (I’m an engineer on an Italian Super yacht... for my sins...)
But if it means getting some BD porn.... I need my regular fix !

The nostalgia and heritage are what I decided to go for.
I could buy a crate Duratec for 2/3 of the price, or less, but just sticking a Duratec in would ruin my project I think.
A BDG would finish it off perfectly, and have plenty of power for such a light car.

That will feel incredibly quick with a BDG up front, depending on your choice of exhaust and boxes it will plenty loud enough. Just been out for a 30 mile spin in my RS1800, feeling very satisfied now! ;-)
