Just bought a 122k '52 Focus TDCi; should I be concerned about a Cam Belt?

It came with a comprehensive listing of what has been done to it, down to new bulbs but there is no mention of a cam belt change, would the dealership be able to tell me about a change (if it had one)?

Thanks

Don't know, but this information from www.honestjohn.co.uk/road_tests/?id=154 seems to indicate that the petrol engines use chain drive, and the Diesels use belt drive. I suppose the belt drive provides the extra torque for the diesel injection.

Thanks.

It's a 1.8l which is interesting, but a search on that site revealed this: 1.8 TDCi diesel engine is belt cam, not chain cam like 2.0 Mondeo TDCi.

So thanks for your help, I've got the answer (just not the one I wanted!)

Do you reckon if I rang the dealership that did all the servicing they would be able and willing to tell me if they changed the cam belt?

The 1.8 diesel (kent/lynx) engine does have a cam shaft drive belt and it's replacement interval was 100k, the belt drives the camshaft via the fuel pump gear. The fuel pump is chain driven from the crank.

Quite a reliable system really
