One of the many Eskies had a little incident during the Silver Fern Rally down here in NZ last week:

Driver opened the corner out a bit too early, as soon as it came off the camber the car floated out wide, clipped the lumpy grass at the edge of the road, almost got it back on the road but didn't quite make it. Car rolled down the bank into the river (luckily landed right way up) then floated downstream a bit before they got out and tied it to a tree with the tow-rope to stop it getting away.

Fortunately for them they got it pulled out (presumable by a crane) and the rally had a rest day the next day, so they were able to get the car up and running again for the next leg.

Incidentally, this one took the overall win:

And the one, driven by living legend Stig Blomqvist, was 2nd overall after over 1000km of driving including 11 hours of competitive stages:

Gotta love the Eskies

eta: more escorts (and a capri RS3100) among my other photos from that stage here: www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=319263&f=123&h=0

Always wondered what a flooded engine looked like... Must have been a bit scary doing that!
