RE: Ford shows off new Mondeo
Discussion
I've seen a couple of new Mondeos in the flesh and I think it looks pretty nice, although it looks quite a bit bigger than the existing car.
The interior looks very nice IMHO:

Mondeos have always been straight forward honest cars. Jack of all trades master of none springs to mind. Mine is a TDI 130 and does everything well and nothing badly. the new one will no doubt follow the same principles. Yes they depreciate fast and the quality, although pretty good, isn't top notch but look at what you pay for the car before comparing it with 3 series and A4's.
Cheers.
Cheers.

Bar the 2.5T, what a crap selection of engines. So many and so little difference between them.
I imagine those 1.6 petrols will be lovely in such a barge.

That's what I thought. I guess they'll introduce a more powerful diesel to compete with the 150bhp Vectra later in the year.
Good looking car though, and if the seats are more bearable and the stalling issues fixed I might be tempted

It seems that (bar the 2.3) they're launching the car with pretty much the same engines as in the current car. I'm sure there has been a bit of tweaking here and there...but nothing to get that exctied about.
Like a few others, I think the estate is definitely the best looking car of the 3 variants...although I will be reserving judgement until I see them in the flesh.
I like the look of the new interior though

Case of Deja-Vu here... I'm sure this was up a couple of days ago!! I assume Autocar and thus Haymarket didn't like the fact the PH was going to beat them to it on running a piece with this weeks Autocar not due out till today!!
If that's true then it stinks!
So now you know why Haymarket grabbed PHs.
Doesn't bode too well for the future of PHs.
Car mags are virtually dead (all they do is fill newsagents shelves while punters read and don't buy, and a majority get returned) except for the Boys-toys ones and even those are getting ultra competitive.
I've owned Golf GTIs, Porsche 911 and RX-8 and the current model Mondeo Estate as the family runabout for the last 5 years and have to say that for what it is this is one fun car to chuck down the road and hides its girth well round the twisty bits. Whereas VW handling has completely gone to pot by all accounts, Ford is on the up and up in the driving department. Is it just me or do all German cars now have an arrogant swagger about them. I just wish they would stick something up front with 300 horses - Mondeo RS anyone....
Good luck to them I say - I'd have another one if the wife wasn't already sold on getting an S-Max

At least the S-Max has the same subframe as the Mondeo, and fundamentally the same chassis! so it should be almost as fun.... maybe without the kids in....
