It aint even a Duratec technically!

Ford Microcat lists the engine as a Ford Focus 2.0 ST170 VVT

It's a Zetec unit with ported head, uprated internals & vvt.

So it can be tuned as per the ordinary Zetec?

It really depends on what you are looking to do?

It's a 2 litre Zetec block with a specific tuned head which has the VVT on it. Unfortunately in Ford's ultimate wisdom they decided to slap a rocker cover that said 'Duratech' on it scratchchin Planks!!!

With regards to tuning it's a bit of a bugger to do as it's already pretty well tuned anyways (exhaust manifold is a Cosworth developed item for example and the Cylinder head is capable of flowing approximately 300 - 350 bhp without any work!!!). Plus it uses the 'Black Oak' ECU (only other use is the Fez ST) which is an absolute pig to work with/chip/tune apparently. There are mods available for it (one of which being an adjustable exhaust vernier pulley which would need setting up on a rolling road) but it's generally accepted over on FFOC that 200 bhp isn't breakable without throttle bodyies or forced induction

Most of the tuning options come from the States (which might also explain the seeming lack of options over here) as the Focus SVT over there uses the same engine.

They're cracking value second hand. Reliable too. I put 70k on mine and it never put a foot wrong.

If straight line speed is your thing then I'd look elsewhere because, as already stated, there's not a great deal you can do to up the power without serious i.e. costly mods.

Some had problems with the vvt mechanism. Something to do with a pin breaking iirc? When test driving there should be a noticable change in noise and pace at around 5,500-6,000rpm.
