Oh dear - it appears I have the worst sort of problem... an intermittent one!
Ford stealer claims to have carried out 19 mile test drive and full diagnostic on their IDS system and found nothing. No fault codes, no reproducibility of the problem.
I bet I get 1 mile from the garage before it breaks down tomorrow...
I can't understand why a problem that would shut the engine down hasn't recorded a fault code.

More than likely either the camshaft or the cranshaft sensor....mine was the camshaft sensor which shut the engine down but would not re-start. No fault code registered which doesnt help!
Its a reasonably cheap fix, bout £12 for the sensor and £14ish for the wiring harness (both need to be changed) plus about an hours labour.
On the topic of reliability, mine was awful. Had a 52 TDCi 130 and in 6 months of ownership, it visited the dealer 6 times, 2 of which on the back of a low loader. Until this time, I swore by Ford but the latest episode has put me off and I now have a Vauxhall. That said, I will go back to Ford at somepoint but will never again have a TDCi....well, unless someone else is paying for it!!!

Why does the wiring harness need to be changed?
Bit odd that it doesn't register a fault code...
Something to do with different voltages. From what I was told, the old camshaft sensors were only regulated to 5 volts whereas the revised version are 12 volts. One of Fords clever ideas.
Sadly I dont have the paperwork anymore to tell you the part numbers...they went with the car.

Cam pos sensor and wiring harness have now been changed.
Maybe someone could explain why the cam sensor is £12.47+vat and the wiring harness is a ridiculous £32.09+vat! Checked at a couple of Ford parts suppliers and all quoted the same.
Fingers crossed the problem is solved at least....

Flippin eck, seems the prices have gone up then...definitely remember my wiring being cheapr than that...maybe they've revised it again.
There is no rhyme or reason why Ford charge such ridiculous prices for the most simple things...£30odd sound expensive for a bit of wire and a connector when you compare it against £35 for a rear shock on my old ST.
However, they have the niche market as no-one else seems to supply them. Might go into business doing the wiring harness myself...cant be that difficult!
