Saw one in action in it's natural habitat today... crusing down the M1 at about 95! Looked good, only another 34000 miles till I can have one smile

Had a sit in a Titanium X the other week, and it was extremely comfortable, and just felt 'right'.

We have five or six of these in work,i can report that the chassis is everything you could hope for with a car this size.I agree the fake wood looks terrible and somebody should be shot for it,the models with the brushed aluminium look far better. The 2.7TT diesel is reasonably lively from the info i have from Dunton and has good tuning potential. The car does feel a lot bigger than my current ST tdci but not overly large.

When is the 2.7 diesel likely to be launched? Also do you know if they'll make it available in the Zetec, as I might just be able to stretch to that...

Is it in the Jag state of tune, ie. 204bhp?? Should be a nice drive that, although I assume it'll be auto only.

Drives like a smaller car... entertaining drive actually.

Not a fan of the Ghia alloys either...

Can't decide if the back en reminds me of a Renault Laguna or the Lexus IS200...

Rumours only for the 2.7 at the moment but most suggest end of year or early next year but after many years of dealing with Ford it could be anytime.I haven't seen any spec info for the 2.7 yet,but from what i was told they have been testing the 204 version of the engine.
Agreed on the drive it handles very well for a big car, turn in, brakeing and cornering all appear to be good. Our demo is the 2.0 tdci and feels ok, earlier lag issues appear to have been addressed by the latest software,i cant really compare to my Mondeo as its not standard and is a 2.2 of course. We have a few Titanium X models including an estate which looks rather nice, some models appear to have wheels that are too small which is one of my few gripes at the moment.

Any rumours as to what sort of petrol engine is likely to be in the ST??? Is it just a higher output version of the 2.5 Turbo I5 ???

The rumour mill on the high output petrol is fairly quiet but i would expect a Volvo powerplant and somewhere around 250bhp so somewhere close to the engine that should have been in the Focus ST,though Ford do have a fully developed 300bhp version which would be nice.

I guess it will all come down to CO2 emissions which in my books would mean turbo power..........

I thought Ford's big plans for the Mondeo were centered around high-spec premium customer orders, rather than knocking out thousands of silver "LX" models with wheeltrims for fleet companies?

Cripes, if this carries on, my next car might be *gulp* a Vauxhall. I'll wait a couple of years and see what VXR8 values are like tongue out

Titanium X is a premium model, Ford's comments that the ST's never sold well anywhere other than the UK do not bode well IMO. That & the news about Land Rover & Jaguar this morning!!! There is no ST version of the S Max and that's been out a while-Vauxhall have there VXR shitbox(forget the model name). The Focus RS have been shelved too, fast Ford's game over? frown

Never underestimate the power of the halo model.

scratchchin It's not like the Focus ST has been a flop for them though. You see loads of them, many times more popular than the Astra VXR.

The fact Ford always do such a good job with the chassis for the base model must make it easier and cheaper to do an ST model if not an RS.

That's their "hot hatch", apparently ST's Mondeo's never sold too well, what with their finacial position right now i think it will take some doing for a Mk4 ST Mondeo to actaully go into production. The 220 only came about as they were testing a transmission, halo models do seem to work but can Ford see that?!

It's a shame that the buying public aren't more interested in how good a car is and either buy a "badge" or a percieved style. It seems so wrong that Ford which has a range of genuinely very good cars and has done for a few years now, struggles, whilst you see so many Peugeots, Renualts and Citroens which are in comparison piles of censored
